BELOW IS YOUR MESSAGES
IN 1 BIG MSG
---------------------------

@freeschool I agree gaming community is pretty atomized, people do largely come in just to play. There are discussions/talk in servers sometimes, despite it being pretty poorly suited for it. (About varying things, there are a few extreme right assholes.) I've played it for a long time.

There were tournaments, and i think some people arrange 1v1s sometimes? Possibly a missed chance that no tournament during covid.(1/N)

------------------------
@freeschool I haven't done tournaments, the range of skill levels varies a lot. I totally winning sometimes, partly because of health pickups and getting in control when you win... Still i am pretty weak against even better players.

Competitive feeling or feeling frustrated getting trounced are definitely something to deal with.. The game is largely dodging and hitting each other. (2/N)

------------------------

@freeschool I think Xonotic has better movement system than Quake.

The feeling of flow is in evading damage and dealing it, it'd be less if there was no opportunity for give and take there? For me negative emotions are mostly really pre-existing, i'll just vent some frustration a bit when it happens.. There are running servers where you have to beat a time, but i didn't find the appeal.(3/N)

------------------------

@freeschool About competition.. Really maybe shouldn't want to be the best as much.. Playing the game as best as we can is sort of a cultural expression, but attaching self-image/feelings to it is a bad side of that.

Possibly that RTS (like springrts.com/ ) or simulations like minetest can provide bigger more structured cultural expressions, without competition for the latter. And they do lots of things the real world can't. Think probably there is a place for them.(4/N)

------------------------

@freeschool
But yeah, it is sitting behind a screen, and not the place we give it right now. At least for people not into books(like me tbh) the more easily enticing forms of entertainment can be too easily distracting.(5/N)

------------------------

@freeschool There is also an issue for me; real world, mastodon and games are really disjoint. Which reduces how much they can act as community.(6/N)

------------------------

@freeschool Ideally should have these more aligned. WhatsApp groups are possibly a good example, they're often in a family or neighbourhood more? Perhaps something like XMPP should be used for that, and people could launch games from that so it's closer aligned to other social relations..

And also perhaps fewer "slogfest" like games like DM or in SpringRTS there was a 8v8 all the time.(versus 1v1 to 3v3 which makes more sense) (7/7)

------------------------

@freeschool
PS: The name change to Xonotic was basically forced by someone running with trademark? I think Xonotic is the "original branch", not the fork. That said, it seems long ago and unimportant.

Stories of good people...

A long time ago when i was 19 years old, i moved to an apartment in Washington state. One roommate had me questioning the choice i just made, while the other was a saving grace. Bruce was one weird guy to say the least, but Brant was pretty much like a brother i never knew i had. Long story short, my money dried up after a few months, i couldn't find steady work and i was riding the bus or walking at times to see the lady i moved there for. Brant helped me out when he wasn't working, he took me to job interviews, we played video games, he introduced me to his friends and gave me a ride when i asked him. I normally gave him some gas money, but he wouldn't always accept it.

He treated me like we've been friends since grade school and then the day i was returning home came. We got in his truck and on the way to the airport he told me he was going to play me some real music. He put this song on and we didn't say a word the whole way and just vibed to this. We then arrived and i got out and walked around the truck and i shook his hand and thanked him for being there for me. I walked away and looked back with a nod and wave and that was the end of the journey and the last time i saw him or spoke to him again. This song will always remind me of that moment and I'll never forget it.

Thanks for reading my story if you cared to, it just made long forgotten memories begin to flow for me.

Gaming notes on Xonotic + some good hashtag comments...

= like Quake / Half-Life / Doom etc FPS multi-player on everything Linux included

Some music while you read called "Jumping In Space" by Xonotic

My notes and thoughts below below after having not played for years:

- Gaming is not so much a Community right? Has it changed from individuals thinking there are in but not really or only for getting fragged on?
- Regardless of that just more of a loose time killer? (your thoughts welcome and all this is neutral not antagonising at all - just my 'stage' 'phase' in life)
- I though "eSport" was a interesting term

Well I have to admit I'm against gaming in general and now suddenly feeling like maybe I could play this "1" game but glad I stopped playing and this probably for nostalgia / keeping the spirit alive for which I only probably contributed dead bodies (my own, actually in FreezeTag I did some rescues)

And since chess is literally the only 1 game right now and I'm work-for-fun based... I'm 2nd-guessing my own reasons why (nostalgia or looking for conversation or somewhere to build is probably the main reason which games maybe don't tend to do unless you good in editing sprites / making maps / being pro)

--------------------------
Some other posts that I felt we good for various reasons
---------------------------
- 'Woman' female playing (never saw that before).... and then on top TWO kids in same room playing... woa times have changed...

fosstodon.org/@codeHaiku/10806

- Xonotic is a fork from Nexuiz

- ceruds @ceruds seems a good bet because
---- > they have a mastodon account (so not emails / gmails) and probably more sane as a person / for freedom / free software

- Game is Free Software itself which is a better start than Quake / Half-Life maybe was though needed and great people probably there at the time and even maybe didn't sell out too hard or much later as it does need money at least back then

@Mehrad mentions to @opensuse -> "Kinda wish you were selecting an project like instead of Urban Terror which is proprietary freeware.

- If you like but also prefer you might want to give a try. xonotic.org/
says: @uniq says:

- EU server? @devurandom@cybre.space says

gonna set up a server for my friends. currently asking linode to migrate it from the u.s. to europe for lower ping

cybre.space/@devurandom/106127

- Map screenshots, not even sure it's real but looks wild if it's not just a picture edit

shitposter.club/objects/885038

- eKreative server ---> @unfa or mastodon.social/@unfa

@chriswere

- Xonotic on - open source game with Chris Were (who I recommend for general video and 'good egg' type banter

share.tube/videos/watch/289871

- Dodger, the number 1 player?... of the whole game... I was wondering who is the best / proven
" I had no chance, he read me like an open book "

- Playing too many hours s hard (which is why I play chess, in and out 10mins max many times a day is ok)... anything other than that and I predict losing track of time / knowing your place / containment
pleroma.site/objects/dcd6882b-

- Competition is eventually bad + PEOPLE FEEL SHIT (what do you say?)
pleroma.site/objects/9742c084-

- I think it's a waste of Gigabytes to put big videos and to leave it at medium and small UNTIL SOMEONE ASKS... just terrible consumption for big high res for bunch of kittens running around for hours while planet suffers almost for that 1 vid !

- <--- does have good ring to it but maybe just feels like community again (me tricking myself / tapping into my 'free life' feelings?)

- Mastodon bot for CTF matches... that would be crazy and addictive - especially if people could get to like each other - good idea in many ways
@jasper

- Example of someone with similar freedom loving aspects
social.pixie.town/@f0x/1021883

- Xonotic supports multiplayer across the internet or locally with your friends.

This is a geofence warrant. In this example, the FBI asked Google for the identifying information of all Android users who might have attended one particular Black Lives Matter protest in Seattle. Google coughed it up.

How to copy mouse-over / tooltip text that someone added to Mastodon picture description ?

Right click picture / image
select View Imagine info
see there in the notes the text

Example: Try mouse-over on this post's image:
todon.nl/@prolrage/10841994324

You should the mouse-over / tooltip text in this picture and steps above can copy the text description (useful not to type it all out when someone already has!)

Some point is made, then widely made.

Some people do it in a toxic way, possibly relating to their internal emotional economy, and are annoying online.

Then those are magnified and given a name like SJW/"woke" or whatever name is most sticky, and it is pretended their existence means the point made is invalid.

People do things for free anyway...
but those that can get money can fuel others locally to the WWW (and back again). And that we can loop voluntarily.

Quitting gmail

@celesteh I got my partner and self away from Google ~8 years ago. We've been using mailbox.org. They've been solid with a decent privacy policy

Quitting gmail

@celesteh I just did this for Yahoo -> Gmail. Dammit. Now I gotta do it again.

Not entirely unrelated, I have nearly finished Chrome -> Firefox. It's taking about six months, but it's nearly complete.

Maasai from #Tanzania are facing eviction from their ancestral land in Ngorongoro area, Loliondo for expensive tourists resort to be constructed by UAE for trophy hunting.

Petrol is Epitome of the problem... with everything needing petroleum / petrolatum...

Petrol is Epitome of the problem...

The shortcomings people will see if they haven't already by the price increases and everything needing petroleum / petrolatum.

At the end (and similar to the beginning) you / people will realise it wasn't theirs and giving the average people access to normalise their life and become consumers for life would mean using it for a lot of insignificant 'work'*... <-- (*and the politics of who judges and makes jobs available for those types of work and not the other types.)
... and then people realise this is the crucial point (or leverage) in which their life almost can't exist without petrol.

We all have been over-burning for a while for the most mundane tasks or for what communally should be done and shared (with petrol or totally without) in order to preserve and even increase taking care of people (not profit).

The problem with petrol is as in the beginning as it is in the end,.
Towards the Mad Max style because the system's patterns itself.

Don't forget the tax that goes to those that actually oppress you.

Filling gas / petrol... arguably gets you oppression.
Oppression means for you as governments get richer / less satisfied or for those countries it was 'taken' / stolen from / sold by.

Maybe good to do a little #Introduction also :blobcatgiggle: Never done that before :catblush:

Well uh.. meow! I am stux, I’m from the #Netherlands where I live with my girlfriend and our two little cats called #George & Washington or #Washy for short! We’ve adopted them from the streets and they’re named by people here on the #Fediverse :blobcatgiggle:

Like my gf, I just became 29 years old and I have a huge love for #tech, #space, #science and more nerd related stuff 😇 Over two years ago I started mstdn.social as a replacement for my former mainstream social media since it became hell. Since than I have expanded mstdn.social with other services like Misskey, Pixelfed, PeerTube, Matrix and so much more!

Since about a year now I quit my (terrible) job at a telecom company where I worked in customer support, I couldn’t stand the yelling anymore.. so I started my own business! It’s called Stuxhost.com♥️ @Stuxhost

My goal in life is to change the world, like many others I guess🫣

Once you have done the work for others then you see if that's it or they can continue entertaining more (in work, in friends whatever) and actually they wouldn't talk to you if it wasn't for that work you did for them
(and while this has some truth or more relativity or 'you can't respond to the same people all the time' there is a kind of shitty feeling about that, that in the end people don't get the people thing or something like that.

How to handle / ask people who answer some part of emails but constantly not other parts

'' SELECTIVE ANSWERING '' ? or some maybe called something else

HELP! I need help sorting our my hard disk and deleting things... it seems sarcastic but really I don't know how to filter so much shrapnel and have ideas all of it (basically haven't over downloaded but over time all hard disks get full). So 'how' to delete it is a problem attributed to relativity / range of ideas...
UUUUFF. How to mentally go about this..?

the digital space be like

are you the answer or are you the echo?
