@levork
I have one of these at home (ornamental use)!
In my work history, an Indigo was the third generation SG platform I was familiar with: earliest was 68000 based/Multibus-I chassis 3000 series; next were the MIPS 4D IRIS boxes, then the R3000 Indigo.

Hey any journalists on here plz turn your public post indexing on, because most of you haven't and thats why people looking for public information cant find you.

Go to settings > public profile > privacy and reach, select "include public posts in search results"

Not all the fedi wants to be a public space, and thats fine, but some parts should be right now.

@Reb @beasts @neil @me @decodedlegal @aaisp I think I'd known of the existence of Beasts for ages (very vague recollection of Alasdair Kergon telling me about them at OxLug) but I didn't become a customer until Bytemark started to go weird.

Am also an A&A customer and I wonder what that Venn diagram looks like

@beasts @neil @me @decodedlegal @aaisp I've been recommending you guys for as long as I can remember, you were the first hosting company I've come across that doesn't feel like a glorified reseller! Strong feeling that you're a group of people who know what they're doing.

If you finally found the solution to your coding problem in a deep comment or something after having dozens of tabs open, you should write about it in your own blog.

Really. Describe the problem in your own words and the solution for it, even if the solution seems really obvious now. Doesn’t matter. Give credit and whatever, but use your own words because you will be surprised at how many people will land on it.

Write the blog post you wish you had found.

The crux of it: my content doesn’t matter to Meta, as they don’t think they can monetise it. My friends’ content doesn’t matter to Meta for the same reason.

So they don’t see my content, I don’t see their content.

We see big influencers’ content. And paid ads.

The network gets less relevant. We login less. So the problem compounds…

Here’s an interesting and useful corrective to worries about #misinformation. Science writer Joanna Thompson discusses research findings that people are not as susceptible as commonly assumed. To be sure, this sanguine view conflicts with my anecdotal experience: I know people who went down a misinformation rabbit hole on vaccines, gun violence, and other topics. undark.org/2023/10/26/opinion-

About a year ago: Unai Emery, Rishi Sunak, and Elon Musk all took over their new roles.

Respectively, there has been interesting exercises in turning a ship around, not turning a ship around, and sinking a ship.

Is that (Octopus) using the RED units? RED, the company they acquired based in NI.

I am reliably informed* that the Met do use straight MP5s, SOP is for the officer to set single fire mode. Mountain of paperwork required if used in auto.
PSNI (as was, RUC) previously used Sterlings, provided this answer to a FoI enquiry:

PSNI isn’t necessarily typical of GB’s police forces due to continuing local terror threat.
Being a major global capital city, London has experienced critical globally influenced terror incidents, accordingly Home Office/Met have established standing protections and mitigations.

Airports and other venues such as Palace of Westminster, London (I visited the buildings, recently. Entrances all guarded by armed Met Police officers).
I'm not sufficiently familiar to discriminate the various types of weapons.

Holy shit I think I’m in love.

#Protomaps, a way to serve vector #maps of the entire world using a single static file and HTTP range requests.

It’s basically a static site generator for interactive maps. Tile servers are pretty much obsolete now. No database needed, you can run your interactive, smooth-zooming vector map from any HTTP storage. S3, Caddy running on your Wi-Fi router, even GitHub pages.

protomaps.com/

It’s open source & free to use. Wow. 🤯

GB police forces’ armed response units typically use Heckler & Koch MP5 & MP7s.
I write GB, as in the other component part of the UK, NI, police officers do routinely carry personal weapons (but notably very rarely used).

Kevin Kruse departs from Twitter/X after making two observations many of us have similarly encountered

1. Being on Twitter now makes you less informed given how much content from grifters and goons is promoted by the algorithm or shows up in your replies.

2. Having lots of followers doesn’t matter because most of them are gone. You get more engagement and higher quality replies on Threads or Mastodon.

Twitter is dead, long live X. A virtual cesspool.
