Good morning! From #Seattle. The sheet of ice.

I learnt to watch birds by watching birds—their patience, attentiveness, and awareness. Here’s a Green heron I found early one morning.

@EllenInEdmonton @chad yeah I need to dig into the audiobook world. I’ve only just started with podcasts this year. Worked my way through all of #Ologies and am now working through #2CreesInAPod and #StuffYouShouldKnow

Listened to a fascinating podcast about #Bryology the study of moss which inspired me to pay more attention to this underrated ancient plant. The podcast was called "Ologies" by Alice Ward. Highly recommend a listen :-) #Ologies #Podcast #Science #Ecology

It’s still #nativeamericanheritagemonth, so on this day of giving gratitude, I am expressing mine and gently nudging you to check out the latest episode of the #ologies #Podcast which features me talking about #soilscience #enviromentaljustice and #Indigenouswaysofknowing. Perfect for those road trips back home!

Following up with a recommendation for the previous episode of #ologies featuring Dr. Robin Wall Krimmerer talking about #moss !! Two excellent episodes from #IndigenousScientists ! #weouthere

Sad news for #sporespondence / #mushtodon: fungus expert Dr. Tom Volk passed away recently at age 63. So this week Ologies is re-airing the Mycology episode where he is interviewed. 🍄 ❤️

The Shark's Paintbrush: Biomimicry and How Nature Is Inspiring Innovation By Jay Harman is an excellent book on the topic.
I really enjoyed it as an audiobook, each chapter is like a podcast episode. Speaking of which, #ologies is an excellent science podcast.

A lot of people are coming from Twitter and saying, "Hey, I had a lot of followers on Twitter so follow me here so I can have a lot of followers on Mastodon!" and I'm having a hard time caring about how many followers they have.

One thing I wished I'd understood earlier in my career as an educator: Sometimes knowledge just has to sneak up on somebody, because if they see it coming, they're going to put up a fight.

Lake Slyvan tucked out of the way near the start of the Routeburn track is well worth a visit if you are around.

Short walk though some lush native forest gets you to the Lake.
