The Open COVID Pledge calls on organizations around the world to make their patents and copyrights freely available in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pledge was developed by the Open COVID Coalition, an international group of scientists and lawyers seeking to accelerate the rapid development and deployment of diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, medical equipment and software solutions in this urgent public health crisis.

Today's #Covid19Cymru stats are pretty much in line with expectations. 9 new deaths (as yesterday); total now 1419. The average number per day (averaged over a week) continues to fall, which is excellent news. That now stands at 6.86: the lowest since late March.
My model (which takes account of variation across the week) predicted 7 for today, so only 2 out. Tomorrow's prediction: 6.

Government Has Started Planning For No Trade Deal Brexit, Penny Mordaunt Confirms...Our approach is going to be achingly pragmatic

("pragmatic"? see George Orwell's 1984 - you know the Ministry of Truth and all that)
Also:
Penny Mordaunt refused to say a ban would remain on chlorinated chicken, hormone-fed beef and other US imports after an upcoming trade deal with Donald Trump.
The minister said she believed “we should be trusting the consumer” on the issue and suggested some people did not want to “put their faith in government” regulations.

There is definitely good news from the #Covid19Cymru figures today. Just 3 new deaths reported, for a total of 1401. That's the lowest daily total since the day after lockdown (24th March) when just 1 was recorded.
We must remember however that weekend figures (this represents Sunday's data) tend to be lower, and so it is very likely that tomorrow will see a higher figure.

If we zoom in on the daily deaths over the last few weeks, we can see the downwards trend resuming. I now suspect the brief upward trend observed towards the end of May was due to increased testing, meaning that more deaths are now correctly being attributed to Covid.

I have to say that I'm not aware myself of many people describing themselves as 'african-canadians' and that includes my other Canadian brothers-in-law.
Fred was educated in the UK, gained a PhD at the Sorbonne and eventually ended up as Head of French at UoT. He spent a considerable amount of time in francophone Africa and the Caribbean. Apart from French, he also spoke Spanish, Russian, Yiddish and a little Italian. In the end he became effectively an anthropologist and an educationalist. Indeed he spent his latter years advising the government of Kyrgyzstan about its educational policies, This involved excursions into remote mountain villages.

Covid-19 makes it clearer than ever: access to the internet should be a universal right - Tim Berners-Lee
If we zoom in on the tail end of the daily deaths graph, it's clear just how unclear the direction is. Judging by this data, this is no time to be easing restrictions. 2/2

I am glad to know that -- as that should be at the user's discretion. Otherwise it's Censorship.
To be absolutely clear -- I personally BLOCK all content from gab and affiliates, a personal user decision which is open to ANY fediverse user (depending on their platform, slightly different ways to implement).
I am not a flag bearer for free speech, considering an inherent human right, but the limiting of user options in the clients is wrong headed, imo. You opinion is probably different, but no offense meant or taken.
We could just ignore these fringes, blocking individual users or instances as needed in case of conflict.

#QotoJournal worthy theme and mention.
Thanks for posting. I'll share this with others.
