Love this framing from ArrowJS:

"**At its core — ArrowJS is an admission that while we developers were busy falling in love with fancy UI frameworks, JavaScript itself got good — like *really* good."**

Modern Opera is Opera only by name. The people that did the old Opera are now making Vivaldi, which is really a new implementation of nearly what was good about Opera, with more features. Pity that they are using the same engine as Chrome, though.

@andysha @Lumpbucket

I don't see Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi and all the others integrating this. In fact, each time Google comes with this kind of "features", they strip them from the code they share with Google, and use that to promote themselves as more open, secure and private.

@Lumpbucket

Maybe the best way to stop this shit is using this feature to detect all browsers using it and actively block them, redirecting to a site explaining why. It seems as a very easy script to implement.

@matuzo @eleventy @enhance_dev

JS can enhance performance, if used to inject content only, avoiding sending common elements every time (menus, site maps...). In most web pages, the weight of the actual content is less than 50% of the actual HTML.

Of course, this improvement happens only if your users load more than one page. If they only see the home, it is worse.

Sadly, most of people includes so many libraries, and so big, that all those improvements go down the drain. CDNs are a cruft that really don't work.

But the real bloat in 90% of sites is advertising and tracking. It easily makes then 10x or bigger. Video ads should be illegal.

You nailed the translation.

@mcc

Chrome is not even in my top 10 best browsers list.
I have never used it as my main browser. Featureless, bleeding edge, insecure, no privacy features...

Nowadays, I'm only opening it for testing and for those rare times when some page doesn't work and I'm not willing to waste time finding which extension or rare setting have broken it in my real browser.

All these red states are now boasting about how they are withdrawing from the American Library Association. They aren’t just satisfied with banning books, they want to get rid of the places that keep and lend them, too. The Christian Right is on the march.

Carl Sagan once warned us of the “dumbing down” of America. He warned of a time when our “critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...”

That time is upon us. We must do all we can to prevent that darkness from taking hold.

Does anybody?

Sometimes, even I don't know what I want, so what can I expect from a machine. Moreover, a machine I get angry at when it doesn't do things exactly as I commanded.

@seldo

Seems pretty obvious they are not doing them for you.

Most of the times, I'm with you, but sometimes, I get curious about how they managed to do something, or how it was like to be in that show.

Many of them are marketing thrash, but sometimes they are really funny, insightful, or complement the show nicely.

@oneeyedman @DavidRamirezRos

@DavidRamirezRos

Blindspot.

Format a disk and install an OS.

Rescue files from a corrupt disk.

Non-linear video editor.

Video player supporting all the formats VLC supports with good performance.

Run a local web server.

Local process viewer.

Some of these may be possible with web USB support, IDK. Others are performance killers. The last two, I don't think are possible for security reasons.
