🎉⌚️ Hey everyone! I'm happy to share that I'll host a watchOS workshop at #iOSDevUK this year! Let's get together and create something exciting for watchOS 10. Now's the perfect time to dive into Apple Watch development. Hope to see you there!
@asiergmorato If you’re using the sample code as written and getting that error in the latest beta, either there was an intentional change (I haven’t been focused on this area, so I’m not sure), or there’s a bug. Can you file Feedback & post the number so I can get it to the right folks to check? Thx!
Summary: Car bloat is terrible – for road safety, for the planet, for equity, and for road maintenance.
But bigger cars are often more profitable, so automakers like making them.
The only way out: Government action. Examples:
🔹 Tax vehicles by weight.
🔹 Test vehicles for pedestrian and cyclist safety (still doesn’t happen in the US).
🔹 Require a CDL for the most gigantic vehicles.
Left alone, this problem will only worsen. Governments must step up.

Some might say: “But people want big cars!”
Not necessarily. US automakers offer no alternative, and car bloat pushes buyers to upsize – if only to avoid being at a disadvantage on the road b/c *others* have big cars.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is that these right-wing "intellectuals" (aka Co-conspirators) think that JOE BIDEN is a figure of such world-historical left-wing tyranny that it's justified to violently overthrow the government.
Making buildings out of stone apparently can reduce the emissions in construction — and in everyday use — quite a bit: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2023/aug/06/back-to-the-stone-age-the-sustainable-building-material-weve-all-been-waiting-for-amin-taha-groupwork-webb-yates-the-stonemasonry-company
since the NY Times is doing it's thing again – quoting anti-trans groups to make gender-affirming care for trans youth seem dubious – I will re-up this essay, which includes over 100 peer-reviewed studies and reviews:

Once again I see people talking about how Mastodon needs quote posts and full text search “right now" but is "opposed." Both features are on the road map (https://joinmastodon.org/roadmap) at the highest priority.
The actual problem is resources (money and/or qualified volunteers), which no one seems to talk about. People talk about Mastodon like it's equivalent to companies with billions in VC money, like the only barrier to implementing features is the desire to do so. The barrier is staffing.
Post by post by Ethan Marcotte is a beautiful reflection (eulogy?) on losing Twitter. https://ethanmarcotte.com/wrote/post-by-post/
Don't think it's just about seeming smarter-- it's also about power. Climate change can only be effectively addressed through collective action. There are no individual solutions to climate change. There is no "I got mine, screw you." solution- this is very threatening to the current economic and political order.
Science is filled with dangerous ideas to other structures of power. Evolution, human sexuality... so many ideas that could ruin the racket now enjoyed by some.
Didn’t snag a spot this month for our Apple Vision Pro developer labs? We’ve just opened up additional appointments Aug 28 – Sept 8 in all regions (Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Tokyo, Singapore). Apply by August 23 to come test your #visionOS app or prototype!
Black entrepreneurs get less than 2% of venture capital funding. This number is too high for some conservatives as a lawsuit has been filed against a fund that funds Black women entrepreneurs because it racially discriminates against white & Asian entrepreneurs.
All of these “race blind” lawsuits by conservatives are all blatant attempts to undo the tiny progress made against systemic racism in the US. And sadly, so far it’s working.
@bgannin @superbetsy Aha! Thanks for clarifying. My husband did this to me today, in fact. 😂
@superbetsy I assumed you’d misheard “unread” when I saw this, but now I’m wondering what I’m missing, too. If it does mean “unread,” I do this when I need to come back to something because I don’t have time to absorb it right now. Marking unread gives me a chance to look at it with fresh eyes later. (Of course, this could all be moot if it really is “on read!”)
Developers it’s the time of the year. If you are working on a new or update to an app get in touch. Especially if the app takes advantage of the new features in the OS updates.
I’m looking for apps to feature in my OS walkthroughs in the fall and my roundup video of best apps for the OS updates.

Scientists are accustomed to gradual change.
But for a large part of Wally Broecker's career — based on paleoclimate evidence — he was obsessed with the idea of abrupt climate change that arrives suddenly and dramatically.
Looks like Wally was right.
https://overcast.fm/+m_ro547_M Hard Fork is my favorite multi-dude podcast because it manages to be informative while acknowledging the limitations of the hosts’ understanding, and it’s FUNNY. It’s half tech commentary, half comedy hour—and the jokes are ones anyone can get and laugh along with. Well done.
The reason my timeline is so rich and varied and extends beyond the development community is @dgoldsmith’s boosts.
