We couldn't be happier that one of the most recognized human rights organizations has adopted an onion service to provide greater online protections for those seeking information, support, and advocacy. Amnesty's choice to offer an onion version of their website underlines the role of this open source privacy technology as a vital tool in our shared work of advancing human rights.

@torproject can anyone help me understand why the .onion address needs to be so human-unfriendly and not simply amnesty.onion?

@mapto @torproject
Because this is not just a website domain, this is a public key involved in the process of obtaining an end-to-end encryption. More here: community.torproject.org/onion

@corl3ss @torproject ok, then the weird thing is that the address starts meaningful :)

@mapto @torproject it just requires to bruteforce the address to match the needed keys. A lot of people do that (as we did oignonspeuuqi7ovpov7srtuhpqut2 ). It is nicer than a full ramdom address :)
