Didn't get around to doing a #FreeSoftwareAdvent post yesterday, so here's today's.

Every developer reaches a breaking point with the pain of dependency management. pips, gems, npms, apts, brews, ugh. Once you hit that point, containers are the only sane way out. Enter Docker, a great idea, marred by the constraints of VC funding (hence premium subscriptions).

#Podman is the drop-in replacement so we have something to fall back on when the VC $$$ runs out.

Great piece of software, probably the first ever FOSS application I ever used, before I knew anything about #freeSoftware .

It is perfect for simple screen recording tasks as well as live streaming complex things, like the Nice Micro League, for which I used OBS Studio first, in 2013.

the free and #OpenSource citation manager software.

My previous employer paid for EndNote, the current one pays for RefWorks, so working on the papers I started there is a pain, but also the new version of RefWroks is a huge downgrade.

With Zotero, anyone can download the application for free, and even have an account for collaborative reference sharing.

The Dutch government has “come to the conclusion that Bulgaria meets the conditions set for Schengen accession and can therefore agree to a decision leading to Bulgaria’s full application to Schengen”, deputy justice minister Eric van der Burg said.
