Congressional Democrats grow critical of Israel’s war effort t.co/0tUODFoesU

@CitizenWald @histodons you seem to be trying to address cheap identitarian racism with a scientific argument. Allow me to challenge that such approach is meaningful. There's a gap between how readers perceive the two arguments, and it doesn't play in your favour in the case of those representatives of the majority in Western countries who are looking for reinforcement of their views.

For an interpretation that is somewhat defining for the issue, consider the notion of epistemic vigilance:
"This debate between reductionism and anti-reductionism revolves around two distinct issues, one normative and the other descriptive. The normative issue has to
do with the conditions in which a belief acquired through testimony qualifies as knowledge. The descriptive issue has to do with the cognitive and social practices
involved in the production and acceptance of testimony. The two issues are explicitly linked in a ‘third way’ approach which assumes that our actual practices, which involve some degree of vigilance, are likely to be reasonable, and therefore at least indicative of what the norm should be (e.g. Adler, 2003, Fricker, 2006)."

Allegedly, there's a trend emerging regarding 4-days workweek. It is becoming more acceptable to employers that require on-site presence from their recruits

@shoq @JoeChip @CassandraZeroCovid you'll get surprised to how many people your pony is something that is a right -to-live standard in the developed world like universal healthcare or gun controls

@mustapipa hard to put urban light pollution and satellites on the same scale, especially when the majority of us view the space from within cities, many even through smog. And yet, certainly the problem of satellite overcrowding is very real, and signals are only one of its expressions. One might think that there are US and international bodies in charge of regulating this, and there actually are.

@mustapipa subsurface ocean sounds like a description of a dead glacier: the ice gets covered with very thick layers of dust, and due to the absence of snowfall, the ice does not cover the dust

I like how #Mozilla (the group behind #FireFox) is betting on the #Fediverse, but they could help popularize the #Fediverse by highlighting websites or social accounts that have enabled #ActivityPub.

People could then be free to follow the news, brand, etcetera, from their preferred #Misskey, #Mastodon or #Pleroma account.

@freemo if you don't mind a curiousity: why did you need this in the first place? Aren't bespoke Images more flexible?

@freemo is this just a platform or also content? If the latter, I'd consider helping you port it to a browser. It's much more accessible

@triptych there's also a.gup.pe/ which would be the equivalent of groups, but there's nothing on our shared interests out there. It's easy to start a new group, but then we'd need to continuously fill it with content

SCOOP: A junior State Department employee who is organizing a dissent cable on the White House's policy on Israel has used social media to publicly accuse President Biden of being "complicit in genocide" toward the people of Gaza. t.co/pfZUPqWSMC

@triptych the thing is that unlike commercial networks, it is passive. So you need to find continuously active people to fill your feed. But finding such people that are interesting to you is difficult.

As an alternative, I've been finding interesting hashtags and interesting instances, but you need to go out of your app to read the instance timelines. Would be nice if there was some app to push content. Something like feditrends.com, but that points you to people sharing the links and that allows you to filter by server

@pzriddle @ethanz @mastodonmigration this is a very interesting conversation, but I don't see it as negative at all.

Regarding many servers with different access policies: this is how user research should be done: reaching out to the relevant community and with respect for their willingness to participate in research. Treating FB or Twitter users as representative for society was problematic on its own.

As for parallel networks, there's an obsession with nazism, but anonymous (think 4chan) or darknet communities are already abundant. Other than the extremes, there's room for a lot of pluralism and parallel communities.

@Properganda @JoshuaHolland @killick all true. Still, my point is that inequality in front of the law plays in the hands of extremists. Throughout history different regimes have tried to justify why some people might be more equal than others. None has come up with convincing arguments

@Properganda @JoshuaHolland @killick pardon my interference, I'm an ignorant outsider, but if you care to elaborate on your position regarding the state of Israel not engaging in apartheid practices, would you comment on the fact that two different sets of laws apply to the two ethnicities in the West Bank? Here's just an example
