@Properganda @JoshuaHolland @killick pardon my interference, I'm an ignorant outsider, but if you care to elaborate on your position regarding the state of Israel not engaging in apartheid practices, would you comment on the fact that two different sets of laws apply to the two ethnicities in the West Bank? Here's just an example

At times of war, when there is propaganda in every move, a reflection on interpretation of history is very timely:

“Comparisons to historic events must be addressed carefully not to belittle or marginalise both the past and present. If everything is a Holocaust, then what is a Holocaust? If nothing can be compared to a Holocaust, how can we learn to recognise certain trends and ensure that they never repeat themselves?” - Vad Vashem

@eloquence @data_diving first, I apologise for the previous comment of mine, which is way too rude.

I personally do consider your effort way too quixotic. Still, trying to be constructive, here's two pieces of feedback that come to my mind:

1. The one I find really difficult: Try to find ways to improve the validity of your dataset by reducing your personal bias, e.g. find objective criteria for who to include (think of your response to @coffeegeek ), and (what you seem to be doing already) try to source accounts that are not filtered by your personal social bubble.

2. I personally would love to be able to query your data, e.g. by "who's on the fediverse. This is currently doable, but not obvious on a phone (as I tried it). Experience from the lists of the Twitter Migration wave when Musk both that platform, shows that once the spreadsheet arrives at 100 rows, this becomes very laborious.

@data_diving @eloquence to me it appears that for whatever reason Erik did not find you at least as notable as Kottke, to pick a random name from the list. Maybe he's German, you're not. Could this be the reason?

@ethanz @mastodonmigration this article is misleading. Walled internet is becoming difficult to impossible to research, but this is also one of many reasons people are finding alternatives to it, so starting to research platforms like Mastodon makes ever more sense

@LupinoArts @jk @appassionato @bookstodon @linguistics there's research (ref Lea Boroditsky) that people speaking languages that have distinct words for shades of blue (Russian, Italian) are better at distinguishing the actual shades of blue

Good Lord, Doodle has been made completely unusable, jammed with horrid ads to try to motivate you into a premium account. Instead, it motivates me only to ask: What are the alternatives to Doodle?

@unexpectedteapot @hosford42 @Daojoan good point, thank you. In fact, Aaron did elaborate later that he'd appreciate more commons and cooperatives within a similar system

@hosford42 @unexpectedteapot @Daojoan and I've lived in a world where capitalism was the enemy. They said they are communists, but they were just authoritarians. They had even invented the term "dictatorship of the proletariat". This is the main difference: pluralism and who tolerates diversity

@bikeshed I suppose you've come across this youtu.be/A3oIiH7BLmg . In any case, I can't give up on history ;)

@seantpayne I think the issue is that Hetzner is not just a low cost provider, but indeed the lowest cost provider. And since nearly all mastodon instances operate on a shoestring budget, we all end up there. It’s not the best situation for sure.

@unexpectedteapot @Daojoan the economic system has a much richer history, including allowing for cooperatives, commons in general and FOSS in particular

"When my Israeli infantry unit arrived at the first village in Gaza, in July 2014, we cleared houses by sending grenades through windows, blowing doors open & firing bullets into rooms to avoid ambush & booby traps. We were told Palestinian civilians had fled.

I realized this wasn’t true as I stood over the corpse of an elderly Palestinian woman whose face had been mutilated by shrapnel. She had been lying on the sand floor of a shack, in a pool of blood.

In a #WashingtonPost interview this week, @Mer__edith explains the relationship between #VentureCapital #VC and #Hype:

«VC's require hype to get a return on investment because they need an IPO or an acquisition […] You don't get rich by the technology working, you get rich by people believing it works long enough that one of those two things gets you some money.»

Great talk from Douglas McCarthy on how public domain content is wrongly published under copyright #openengaged - contrast UK with other countries

@reginagrogan EMEA is a bit of a broad term. It seems you're more interested into DACH ;)

@MattHodges I find reading this very enlightening. If I ever encounter anyone from this type of crowd, they are too isolated to be representative. So I appreciate the richness of this narrative, despite it just glancing over the encounters
