That's a nice question, the difference between when Facebook started in 2005 and the current year 2021 is simply that more people are on internet now (especially due to smartphones), links to Facebook and Twitter are seen everywhere (the two companies have heavily invested in making their name appear everywhere on the internet even paying news channels to cover the platforms covertly). Back in the time things were more manual, control was more on your side, now it's all just one tap away and the big tech make sure that you can't run away from them while using the internet, smartphones, etc.

Ohh my god @Ashy_Mini@mstdn.social has fever :blobfoxterrified:

@alan
The other reason for the popularity of these platforms is that they have become popular :blobcatgoogly:
Twitter is the homeland of politicians and famous people issuing statements and is seen on all small and big news everyday. Facebook is also similar with a very huge user base and the number of this user base (as well as the integration of using Google and Facebook accounts for signing up for different services and websites) attracts the crowd.

As probability nicely says, most people will use the things which other most people use.

wifi is hot due to overuse?

@alan
People don't choose social media based on the features, it simply depends upon are the people you like and want to interact with are on that social media.

First pic: Western Ghat in the state of Gujarat. The region is called Dang, this region is 98% tribal and the only region in India which defeated the British hence was never under British rule.

Second pic: The local peak of Western Ghat in my town (in Maharashtra) named Mahuli (means Melodic)

@stannard
No this is Maharashtra (Mumbai is the capital of Maharashtra).
Western Ghats span over 1600 Km covering 5 states of India. Starting from the low hills of Gujarat (from where PM Modi comes from and also Asiatic lions are found) to the southern tips of India in Kerala where the Western Ghats hit the heights of 2700m at it's peak.

Found a very beautiful personal vlog movie about the Monsoon in the Western Ghats :ablobcatbongo:

no problem, just saying this is the irony of everything in world.

@realcaseyrollins
just had a fight with a friend here yesterday about the N-word. I just wanted to tell her that outside of the American continent and west the word doesn't have any historical and emotional feeling attached to it. Young generation of India as well as the other third world has picked it up from hollywood and American internet culture :blobcatgoogly:

@strawberryfieldsforever
There is no legal binding with this types of petitions. Sometimes seeing the popularity of some petitions, politicians change the law (to bag in votes for the next election). Though most of the online petition die away without any effect.
This is considered as Slacktivism, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slacktiv

Also Change.org is a for-profit company: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Change.o
