Session 7 of my space campaign. Another player has taken over as GM, leaving me to focus on my character: Susan, the passive-aggresive uplifted capybara.

As we arrive in the Ceto system, Radio Patriarchy informs us that Edgelord Grimdark is to marry Opal Lissaune, heir to the Conglomerex fortune.

We drop off the Telkines and go to an island to pick berries for Dr. Hans Nereida's cousin Pablo. We spot another party on the beach and they have ... a little brown, furry companion? Could it be ... another capybara? Am I not alone in the universe?

I take a look with my spyglass, give everyone the dirtiest look they've ever seen, and run off into the trees. They find me weeping and try to comfort me. "Do you need a hug?" "Do you need a valium?"

I point back toward the beach with a quivering paw. "That ... that is a BEAVER."

After some discussion of kidnapping Dr. Leary and forcing him to make me a companion, we get to the task at hand: convincing Pablo to leave the planet with us for someplace safer. As a show of faith, we need the berries and some scones, which we'll have to buy in town. Humiliatingly, I am forced to disguise myself as a beaver (a common pet on this planet). I am briefly mesmerized by a marimba in the bazaar.

As we're shopping in the bakery, Opal comes in, followed by local police who attempt to arrest them. Amaris, our cyborg assassin, reacts to the police abusing their authority by starting a fight. The bakery fight involves exploding bags of flour and rock-hard baguettes. We escape and head down the street toward Pablo's house.

Over the radio, we hear Dr. Nereida (back at the ship) being arrested.

A black limo pulls up. It's Katerina Flugeldorp, a representative of the Charybdis crime family. She contracts us to assassinate Grand Marshal Nekton, who is behind all of these police actions. Confusingly, the wedding is to take place on Nekton's ship. Our contact is a caterer. Amaris's old rival Ruce Aler will be working with us. We are each allowed to select a weapon; I pick a grenade.

Lines:

"If guns worked underwater, water wouldn't be as scary."

"I've been picking berries all day. I need some skulls to knock."

"We're not going to MORE danger, are we?" "Oh, yeah, probably."

"Let's &^%$ split the party."

"None of us are up to any good, really."

Emptied out my inbox (and my drafts folder). Got an experiment running on the computing cluster. Re-wicked a fireknife blade.

"Must everything be boring and sad?"

Andor, Episode 4, summing up the problem with all of the Disney+ Star Wars series

@trinsec You may be able to get some of these without a subscription from Amazon, either streaming or on DVD.

My two moods:

“I know we’ve been talking for months but what’s your name again?”

…

“SwiftUI views are implemented as structs, which means that every time a state variable is updated the entire struct object is destroyed and recreated. I read this once six months ago.”

@trinsec They're not on Netflix per se, but Parks and Recreation and Ted Lasso are also in this vein.

Saw this going through Facebook. 🤣 @XylaFoxlin @AstroKatie thought you might get a chuckle as well. #cartoons #NASA

@jalefkowit Patton Oswalt's latest Netflix special spends some time on this question.

@rolltime R is even moreso: it's amazing what you can do in one line of code, but if you stray from the path you will get an error message that could summon Cthulhu.

The Fire Marshal is lifting the burn ban, so I need a song to fire dance to for our Dance of the Damned show in a couple of weeks.

Constraints:

* 2:30-3:30 (because this is how long the fuel lasts)
* Strong beat for dancing
* Halloween/occult theme (bonus points for fire theme)

Top candidates so far:

* Kim Petras, There Will Be Blood
* Barns Courtney, Hellfire
* Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bad Moon Rising
* The Charlie Daniels Band, The Devil Went Down to Georgia

Watcha got?

@worldsendless The parentheses are both balanced and unbalanced until you evaluate the expression.

Good to have a day where I actually checked some things off of my to-do list instead of just treading water.
