Night photography can be hard, especially when there is action; this is not improved when the photographer has had a few drinks and doesn't have a tripod.

Imagine my surprise when I see that this Samoan fireknife dance photo turned out this good all things considered!

@htdrake ... and the first time, she won!

By a nose hair's thickness of bi-phase carbide armor, but still.

If you're doing , come mid-September you're going to want a copy of Siva Afi: The Fireknife Dance of Samoa.

Just 8 hours left in my 25th Century Games giveaway! Gartenbau and Blazon are two beautiful games and they’ll go to a new home tomorrow! Details and entry form: derekbruff.org/blogs/firstplay #BoardGames

@bamboy We're using MoreMountains's TopDown Engine and Pixel Crushers's Dialogue System. They do a lot of the work for us, but it's more layers we don't fully understand.

@jordinn As @agnes pointed out, this story buries the lede: there are people who want treatment but there isn't enough of it available.

Look how deep the NYT buried the lede in this #Portland article 💀

First you hear from a downtown business owner saying "there’s no point calling the cops".

Then you hear from a cop on how he polices drug users (while remaining silent on how he polices drug dealers).

Then you hear from a homeless drug user who is desperate for help.

Then FINALLY you hear from a TREATMENT CENTER DIRECTOR that points out: "You just can’t skip [the residential treatment] step and expect people to be successful".

The existence of draft horses strongly implies the existence of Final FINAL rev1 (copy) (backup) FINAL3 dot horses.

@blogdiva The one statistic I keep returning to is this one:

No Democratic Presidential candidate has received a majority of the white vote since the 60s. (Since the Civil Rights act and realignment of the parties.)

Not one. Not any of them.

None.

Even in the last election, which was the easiest election to make the easiest choice and they failed.

It's why suppressing the black vote is so key to these assholes. Black people understand the assignment. Everyone understands the assignment.

Just not white people. So terrified of the "other" they'll feed their kids to the machine rather than lifting up everyone.

It's frustrating as hell.

My two feats of gaming this month were: (1) playing Nemesis for the first time and (2) playing all of the O games we own for our #BoardGamesAtoZ challenge. Even, shudder, Ogre. Twice, no less.

Burn the Fort is a new board game (now fully funded) created by Klee Benally, a Diné (Navajo) game designer.

It's a historical game of Indigenous resistance, where players are in semi-coop to push back Manifest Destiny colonizers, who have built a military installation on their land.

Players will attack wagons and supply lines, sabotage the train, and destroy the fort.

It's a resistance game in the vein of Bloc by Bloc and is on Gamefound now. gamefound.com/projects/indigen

@shauna What's your favorite voting method? Ranked choice? Approval? Something else?

All of our Unity bugs seems to be race conditions. With a thousand layers of event-driven lasagna, it's almost impossible to ensure that one line of code will run before another.

@rjsheperd I'm gonna be doing game development in Unity, which is a memory and CPU hog.
