@whiskeysailor Fact check (after my reading the one article linked below): kindasorta.

TLDR: "Anti-vaccine forces claimed it was dangerous, tanked its popularity and sued it out of existence after just a few years on the market." (It's slightly more complicated.)

Two other points of interest:

There ARE vaccines available for dogs.

"Members of a CDC advisory committee disparagingly called it a “yuppie vaccine” for affluent suburbanites ... Lyme was seen as a champagne problem: a mild, treatable disease that affected a small number of people only in certain—wealthy—regions." This is interesting because we so often hear about industry developing boner pills for rich white men rather than curing, e.g., malaria.

To be clear we had a vaccine but since it didn't make enough money it was killed off. Not sold off, not sold to other companies, just killed so the...

"oh you mean like carrier pigeons?"

no i mean that guided missile from ww2 that was going to be guided by a pigeon in there that had been trained to peck at the ship in order to get treats and thusly would peck peck peck away straight into becoming that one guy at the end of dr strangelove.

Absolutely. This is why I vote for Democrats. They're not perfect, but collectively they pull in a direction that is within 90 degrees of good. Every single Republican senator voted against doing anything to save the planet.

@MariaHill I'm shocked it actually happened. Manchin and Sinema deserve a whole fuckton of shit for forcing it to be scaled back. And not to mentio...

Her: I like your brain.
Him: What's so great about my brain?
Her: Well, it's got all those ridgy parts!

Even ignoring price, I would absolutely rather eat a grocery store pizza than go to a Michelin starred restaurant.

After getting responses from several sources, I'm leaning toward just grabbing a box of colored cards like the one below and having the students write A/B/C/D on them with sharpies (which also dodges the colorblindness issue).

Many techniques (e.g., Mazur's Peer Instruction) suggest asking a (well-designed) question of the class and having them hold up marked A/B/C/D.

... so you'd think someone would be manufacturing such cards. After *several minutes* of searching, pretty much all I can find are PDF templates to print out and cut apart with scissors.

Closest thing so far:

There has to be a way to do this more cheaply. Also, having each letter a different color would make it easier to read the room.

Driving around to stores searching for products is an infeasible waste of time and carbon, but I can certainly spare a few extra clicks to order things directly from the manufacturer rather than buying from Amazon.

I can't remember from whom or where I heard/read this quote. "If you work hard enough, you can earn a million over a few years, but you have to steal to get a billion."

From the engraving, you'd think this is a combination Viagra / Ambien.

Care to hazard a guess what it's actually for?

We've reached the strange time where someone flying a huge American flag on their truck is likely to support violently overthrowing the democratically-elected American government.

OMG, are they parading around to prepare her for a Presidential run?! She's 82 years old!

I can't believe we got all the way through the 80s without a slasher movie called Jazzercide.

(A quick eugooglizing shows that several other people have arrived at this but used it for other purposes.)

If it hasn't happened already, someone is going to try to "solve" the academic publishing problem by putting papers on the blockchain.

You know when you find out a company you buy from is doing something horrible?

Refreshingly, Synty (who makes art assets for ) has a pleasant surprise in their EULA:
