I was reading about the physics of sound waves on the Y.U. (Yale University) website, and it's absolutely fascinating. According to Haskins Laboratory, all sound can be described as a combination of pitch, which is measured in hertz (abbreviated Hz) and pressure, measured in either decibels or micro-pascals (abbreviated with the Greek letter mu-P). I prefer thinking about this in decibels, though, because I'm never gonna give Y.U. μP.
@sarajw This blows my mind. Imagine making infrastructure so car dependent that you make walking illegal.
'#Siri: please give me a visual metaphor for the status of cycling infrastructure in the United States'
Yes, that is an actual bike path.
Yes, those are actually 8 protected lanes for driving.

You know what’s software engineering? Regaining control over a computer 20 billion kilometers away thanks to the design decisions made 50 years prior. #voyager2
#Java starts the names of primitive types with lower-case letters and all others with upper-case letters.
#Csharp *could* do that.
Or, reasonably, it could use capitalization to distinguish between value types (like ints and structs) and reference types (like classes).
But no. C# uses this to indicate whether a type is *predefined*. So string and object, unlike all other classes, start with lower-case letters.
Worse, string and object are actually aliases for System.String and System.Object, respectively.
Why would you add aliases to make things *less* consistent?
i'm glad it's not the 19th century, because i am able to go on computer and shitpost with other weirdos. if it were 1860 there would be no computer, instead you'd have to read a book titled "a treasury of wisdom, wit, humor, and proverbs" and all the stuff in there would be like "if a woman gives you a watch-chain of horsehair, her father will surely receive you coldly unless you bring him a gift of marmalade" and i'd rather just get tuberculosis

Hey, just a reminder about Mastodon: It's really irritating to read a long thread in which every post has a CW on it, but the Mastodon software anticipates this, and the thread view has a little eye icon up in the corner that will expand every post in the current thread all at once.
Night photography can be hard, especially when there is action; this is not improved when the photographer has had a few drinks and doesn't have a tripod.
Imagine my surprise when I see that this Samoan fireknife dance photo turned out this good all things considered!
