Card-based #ttrpg idea:
Your character is represented by a deck of cards representing your skills. The better you are at a skill, the more copies of that card you have. In order to use a skill, you need enough copies in your hand/tableau for the difficulty of the task at hand. Managing to get all three would let you pull off some amazing stunt.
Things like gear, preparing, aiding others, injury, etc. could be worked into this.
One interesting consequence is that luck become “input luck” instead of “output luck”: instead of deciding what you want to do and then rolling the dice, you’d know if it’s going to work or you need to do something else instead. Perhaps there could be a mechanism where taking an action and failing could earn you more draws or something.
Thoughts? Is there a game that already does this?
