Every couple of years, climate scientists cautiously specify a range including scenarios 1 and 2. The GOP says, "That's crazy scaremongering!" Then when the data come in it turns out we're in scenario 3.

Who should that person be? Given their admissions in opposing vote-by-mail, the GOP believes it should not be "the choice of the people", but "our guy, by any means necessary".
The Republican philosophy is an odd mix of libertarianism ("no laws!") and authoritarianism ("obedience to the President at al costs!"). They seem to believe authority resides in one person, not the shared agreement of the Constitution.
