Started the Arkham Horror LCG Dunwich Legacy campaign. Boldly, none of us even looked at the random weaknesses shuffled into our decks.

We got so lucky in the first scenario that we didn't earn any experience points.

Today i learned that 40% of cargo shipping is fuel.. They're carting oil and petrol and coal and coke around the planet burning fossil fuels to deliver more fossil fuels to people.

So once we switch to local renewables we won't need those 40%. The problem gets smaller.

I had high hopes for Game 2 of our Near and Far campaign, but @peterdrake pulled off the victory.

Remarkable about Crimson Forest for me:
(1) My quest encounters with victims of the Red King had disappointing rewards. Seeking redemption does not pay well.
(2) I had a game-winning solo completed trade route within my grasp on my final two turns, but the 10-point Ancient Robot threat beat me both times. Because I rolled 1. TWICE. This is what I mean when I say dice hate me.

reading Ford's "autonomous vehicles reposess themselves" patent and this is some grim, if completely expected stuff.

"Typically, the owner is uncooperative at this time and may attempt to impete the reposession operation. In some cases this can lead to confrontation. It is therefore desirable to provide a solution to address this issue."

They describe
- Escalating pressure, including disabling air conditioning/heating to "cause an additional level of discomfort to a driver and occupants of the vehicle"
- Emitting "an incessant and unpleasant sound every time the owner is present in the vehicle. The reposession system computer may also ensure that the owner is unable to turn off the sound without first making contact with the lending institution."
- Locking your car in a geofence so you can only use it to drive to work and get groceries, to not "adversely affecting a livelihood of the owner of the vehicle and hampering the owner's ability to make payments towards the vehicle."
- Yes, of course, the central component is that they want to be able to have your car drive itself to the tow lot and impound itself, but also "If the market value of the vehicle is below the pre-determined threashold price, the reposession computer may autonomously move the vehicle from the premises of the owner to a junkyard" - the logic of which is bog-typical **vile** for capitalism, they would rather it be scrapped than used by a poor person.

The way the tech industry gets worse faster and faster as we approach the singularity is the spaghettification of enshittification.

Why settle for Sunday when you can have SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY WITH A 600-FOOT MUDBOG, NITRO-BURNING FUNNY CARS, AND *lowers voice even further* SPECIAL GUEST ZZ TOP.

Tech industry, please hire more writers. I can happily read docs for 3h and get much more out of them than watching a video for 3h. And while I'm watching the video, I'm making copious notes so that I don't have to watch the video *again* later to refresh my memory. If it was written down in the first place with good indexing I wouldn't have to do that. Video is such a crap way to document things.

I thought I was stomping everyone in today's game of Eclipse (first edition), but I merely beat them. Perhaps surprisingly, in a four-player game, the only PvP combat was when another player threw a single interceptor at my powerful fleet in the center on the last action of the game (for the reputation draw).

I prefer Eclipse to Twilight Imperium. What I'd really love to see is a game that's just about maneuvering the fleets -- no tech tree, no artificial politics, no managing the civilian infrastructure. A 1X game, if you will.

Big Gus has a happy stuck in his thinker this morning and it's contagious.

It's actually bad luck to say MacBook inside an office. You have to call it 'the Scottish Laptop'

*buys an O'Reilly book*

*doesn't get around to reading it*

*buys the next edition*

gets to go to school today and all next week! She's not interested the pets everyone will want to give her, but she will accept their treats. "I'd better be #$%@ spherical by the end of this!"

Is Google Classroom really worth the effort?

- The "Stream" is useless, because students don't see things posted there unless they explicitly set up email notifications. I already have a regular class email list for communication.
- The classwork calendar could be a simple Google calendar shared with the students. That would actually be *easier* to work with for tasks like changing a due date -- just drag rather than dig through menus.
- I imagine a Google Drive or even GitHub would be easier for handin, because it would allow me to download submissions in bulk (or even run scripts on them). I don't need the "you can't edit your turned-in file until it's been returned" feature.
- Since I'm ungrading, I don't need the gradebook. I especially don't need its lousy "assignments will be listed in the order they were created and you can't change this" policy.
- I already have an official roster.

I feel like I'm doing a bunch of work to shoehorn things into this LMS and I'm not getting much out of it.
