@thinking_images @morgfair Mexico may be supplying the fentanyl that contaminates the illegal drug supply ... but it's American drug abusers who are buying it and taking it. You'd think a Republican would respect capitalism and decry drug abuse, not the other way around.
Would love to see what happened if Erdogan tried to block Twitter. It'd have blown up in his face and Musk actually would have looked pretty good. Pity he's not bright enough to work that out.
He should have let Erdogan try to block Twitter in Turkey. It'd have blown up in Erdogan's face and the end result would have been a big win for Twitter and yes, Musk.
But no, here's his oh so principled take:
@elizatech IKR? Influencers status here I come
I've also noticed a weird thing on Mastodon where really similar posts get really popular at the same time. Somebody is copying somebody and there is zero attribution of the person/post the idea came from. I, personally, speaking only for myself, don’t like it.
@christianready @sundogplanets
Wearing several belts was a thing in the 80s. But Fomalhaut is only 25 light years away, so if it was doing it in 1998, it's not a very fashionable system
Speaking of which, I do think that the solar system is nice and elegant again post that decision...
Four small rocky worlds, one asteroid belt, four gas giants. How tidy can you get? Tacking a wonky Kuiper Belt object onto the end just threw off the balance, and then you've got to let them all in, bad orbital manners, chilly interstellar ways and all
@sundogplanets I thought it had a trillion or so moons, the size of dust particles up to 10 meters or so.
Before Brexit even passed I was wisecracking about the UK kids finally getting flammable pyjamas back...
And now today, Brexit pundits, when asked for examples of what they don't like about retained EU regulation, are actually going on about child car seat requirements and infant formula safety.
Can't say it often enough: there's no parodying these people.
@JamesGleick Yeah, sometimes it seems like entire days went by when the NYT didn't run a pity-party story about the forgotten white working class gun owning male in flyover country.
I just wish everyone had been reading Sarah Kendzior back at the other place. She was never fooled by any of it:
@Sardonicus Not all that far off the Mechanical Turk. https://www.uh.edu/engines/epi2765.htm
Which Amazon actually implemented, in a way: https://www.mturk.com/
@Sundae_Gurl Yep. Bernie Madoff was prosecuted because he stole from rich people. Was he the biggest fish in the banking scandals and financial meltdowns we've had, or the worst? Not remotely. Now go ahead, name another high-profile prosecution from that era. You can't, can you?
@sundogplanets (I'm just grumpy because my wife just had to fight tooth and nails to be allowed to attend virtually a two-day meeting with people flying in from all over the country.)
@sundogplanets Presenting (and attending) virtually is also a good way not to get COVID.
@Sundae_Gurl I haven't been able to find it again, but not too long ago a read a metasurvey -- basically a survey of surveys spanning multiple countries that showed pretty convincingly that around 36-38% of the population, everywhere, will reliably vote for the strongman, the one who does little more than identify an enemy and say he's one of you and he'll fight for you against _them_.
