If Microsoft really wanted to make itself useful they'd apply their AI research to Clippy:

"It looks like you're about to hit 'send' on something that will haunt you for the rest of your career. Would you like some help?"

@morgfair Imagine being Ann, and having your wardrobe reek of flop sweat every night.

@JohnShirley2023 The Three and Four Musketeers are superb in so many ways. Screenplay by Flashman author George Macdonald Frasier, which helps to explain the wonderful details and the revised humor. (If you've read the original, it's hard to catch on to what people thought was funny in Dumas' time.)

@JohnShirley2023 She also of course looked amazing, and it's weird to realize that she was the same age as my mom.

@JohnShirley2023 She just destroys in her Mork and Mindy two parter -- comedically he's got nothing on her. Available online in its entirety. Found and watched it yesterday for the first time since it was originally broadcast when I was 16. I'm amazed at how many lines I remembered.

Has anyone asked Cmdr. Straker if Skydiver even has the range to intercept a UFO over the middle of North America?

@furiousrobot At this point I'd expect them to be breaking into people's houses to announce those profits to the British public in person.

I can see why Russian soldiers are stealing windows from Ukraine. The windows in Russia seem to be remarkably bad at keeping people from falling through them.

Imagine what public transportation would be like if people were willing to pay what they really do for their cars for it. It'd run in a continuous stream and have the comfort and amenities of Air Singapore's First Class section.

As it is, people are quite astonishingly careful not to add up what their cars cost them in total, at all. It's the most ubiquitous example of wilful blindness in modern civilisation.

I'd just like to ask Musk's high-and-mighty critics what *their* solution is to the epidemic of toddlers in crosswalks.

@JohnShirley2023 Besides, not one of Musk's high-and-mighty critics has come up with a better solution to the toddlers-in-crosswalks problem.

@Cadigan Thanks! The usual suspects online don't have it, but Movie Madness here in Portland does! I'll have to pick it up.

Her Mork and Mindy episode is available online in its entirety. She's wonderful in it. i'm astonished at how much of the dialogue I remember, given that it predates VHS by a lot, I was about 16. and haven't seen it again until now...

Thinking of the brilliant bombshell we just lost, here's something I stumbled on a month or so ago: a dance routine from a 1970 Raquel Welch TV special, remixed to a startlingly well-chosen piece of music: "Pets" by Porno for Pyros. The result works rather better than the somewhat trite choice it aired with.

@Cadigan I'd love her for her performances in Bedazzled and Richard Lester's Musketeer films alone, but she did so much more besides. Just a spectacular, bright, funny lady.

@malwaretech in the optimal outcome hierarchy:

Therapy > Buy Twitter > Shoot up your school

@H4Heights @ottocrat They treated it as advisory when the First Minister asked for a "quadruple lock" provision to prevent any country from being taken out of the EU against its will. Lidington refused on those grounds, that it was "advisory, and makes no provision for what happens next." Only when it won did they instantly change their language and call it a mandate and "the will of the people." Absolute bait-and-switch: one of many reasons it was an unsafe result and should have been set aside.
