I keep seeing articles, about people trying to violently overturn election results, that use phrases like “motivated by election lies”.
They aren’t motivated by lies, they are motivated by not liking the result. Repeating the lies just makes them feel powerful because it makes them part of the grift. They think they’re fooling people.
Blaming the lies lulls us into thinking that this is an education/disinformation problem which, if addressed, will eliminate the violence.
These folks aren’t deluded. They’ve learned from their leaders that violence and lying are the route to power.
For most of my life I thought these problems could be solved by education. I no longer do. As far as I can tell, about 30% of the population believes that getting away with grifts and bullying people is proof of power and leadership that should be respected, worshiped, and emulated.
We can’t educate these folks. We can only build a society that ensures that they cannot gain control. Unfortunately, the entire human race has largely failed to do so, and we’re suffering the consequences on a planetary scale.
Every day we act as though they don’t *know* that the elections were valid, is a day we risk losing the fight for democracy, equality, and a stable environment.
Fair point! While my mind ran more toward “My voice is my passport, verify me,” the idea of recreating lost voices from brief recordings does seem like a reasonable goal.
The contrast in quality between this and Apple’s new book narration voices is astounding. I mean, it’s great for fraud and deepfakes that they can train new voices on such tiny samples, but the results seem uncanny in a bad way.
What on earth makes them think minimal training is the right goal, rather than overall quality?
I used to describe to people exactly what I wanted, and complain that nobody would sell me one. I would go on in detail about what I wanted. When Apple TV was announced, several people reached out to let me know that I had been heard. In truth, it took until the 4K model to be perfect, in the sense that I described earlier, but it definitely is on the list for me.
The Apple TV+ service is great too, but the UI for it is… not good, IMO.
I cannot imagine choosing life without my Apple Watch, either.
That is a lot of products!
When they hit the target, it’s difficult to express in words how incredible it is. CarPlay, AirPods, and so on, it’s like product perfection. Even though they’re not actually perfect. It’s like a whole different category.
Morning Good people! Giving thanks for another 24. May you all receive new opportunities and strength this new week. Have a Marvelous #Monday folks!
Living with Cantonese speakers frequently makes me wonder how much of the differences between us is culture, and how much is purely language. The language differences alone are astounding!
I'm enjoying mastodon so far but wow, all the comments about how white it is are extremely right. Almost all the other trans folks I've found have been white, and I know that isn't representative of the real world or even likely mastodon as a whole. I'd love to hear more from trans and queer POC (and POC all up, I've just been connecting with a LOT of trans folks).
Can anyone boost this to help me find more voices to listen to? Or recommend some hashtags? I don't even know how best to tag this.
@AmpBenzScientist I don’t think what either of those countries has done is anything like what is being suggested.

I don’t think most of us have time for that. “You are trolling but you don’t have to be a troll” is a very very very long conversation to start, and most server admins are, I think, already pretty busy.
Since I have no familiarity with "country music" artists, I mistakenly mentioned Zach Bryan in my initial post, but I found that song, "Starved," is fine! Good, even!
Okay, let's do this. I'd love for someone from Apple Music to try to explain how this playlist makes sense. How does a list start off so well with John Legend, SZA, and Zacari, then give me at least the third version of "Unholy" I've had in the last some-number of weeks, drift through some The Smashing Pumpkins and Biig Piig, and then suddenly drop Bailey Zimmerman singing "Get to Getting' Gone" in there? Then back to goodness with Arctic Monkeys, ThxSoMuch, and GloRilla, but then: back-to-back songs featuring Nick Minaj and Old Dominion? How do Old Dominion or Brett Eldredge end up on this list at all? And then the list ends just fine, with Joji and Billy Raffoul and Meadowlark!
Where on earth did Bailey Zimmerman, Old Dominion, and Brett Eldredge come from? The Venn diagram of people who listen to those songs and people who listen to nearly everything else on the list cannot overlap by much!
I'm sure there are people who love those three artists, and perhaps they're all lovely people. But I'm guessing anybody with those three songs on their playlist and *not* complaining would be upset to get my playlist for completely different reasons.
It's like Sesame Street: three of these things don't belong here.
