Nice fortune I got opening xterm.

Organic chemistry is the chemistry of carbon compounds. Biochemistry
is the study of carbon compounds that crawl.

@GustavinoBevilacqua
This is a great one!

In Gaussian you always get a chemistry fortune message at the end of the calculations.
I don't know where they take all those chemistry quotes from, is there a chemistry specific fortune?

Chi mi chiama "alleato di Putin" perché sono nemico di tutte le guerre non sta qualificando me, ma se stesso. Schieratevi con la NATO se proprio vi prude il missile, ma non schierate me. Io sto col diritto internazionale e contro i missili, chi dice altrimenti è disonesto. :pace:

Well, people went on the streets in Moscow. 2000 now arrested across country, and on the second day the subway station where people started gathering was blocked immideately. No one wants this war, except for the government.

Some say all germans were nazis in the 1940s. Well, I think I realize how did that feel. Trying to live your life, as best as you can, to find out one day that somebody decided to commit a slaughter using your name.

When someone uses the term "Putin apologist", you can bet your ass on them being a complete and utter NATO apologist. It's a propaganda term designed to shut down any and all rational debate about geopolitics that may involve information other than "NATO good, Putin evil".

You can do better, fedi. Don't be idiots eating up and then parroting warmonger propaganda.

You're free to think it as you might.
I never stated that Russia is rightly claiming Ukrainian territory.
I don't think that.
I believe Russia is behaving like a Great Power whose sphere of influence is being attacked.
There were diplomatical ways to solve this and prevent a war.

You're right, probably NATO cannot do anything anymore without starting WW III.
It could have done things to prevent the war.
Now Russia will win the war, and the sanctions will aggravate the situation.

I simply don't like how this crisis has been handled by NATO.
This is not the correct way to handle it.

I gave you several valid reasons as to why that's the case, you addressed none of those.
If you're not open to discussion then it makes no sense to continue.

@arjen
I'm not saying that I agree with the Russian vision.
NATO should still negotiate with countries that have a different opinion, even though that ideology is unacceptable in the west.
Diplomacy is needed when you disagree, not when you agree.
Alternative solutions could have been found, nobody really tried.

You can see that the way we handled this conflict brought a lot of freedom to Ukrainians: now they're getting killed in a war.
I don't see anything good in this, thus I don't see why the way NATO let this happen should be praised.

Someone else already posted this image here on qoto but didn't provide any source.
Could you please provide a source?

Someone mentioned the man in the picture being a meme for videogamers, at this point I'm starting to believe this is likely.

Please, provide a source or stop spreading harmful misinformation, I don't like to see it here on qoto.

@arjen
First of all, this is not Putin action: it's Russia who declared war.
Russia clearly has all the responsibility for the physical damage that is being done in Ukraine.

NATO is responsible as well.
NATO didn't listen to the reasonable concerns of a neighboring country (Russia) and since when the crisis started, in 2014, didn't do anything to solve it.
All negotiations attempts by NATO were mostly a joke that didn't go in the direction of solving the crisis.
All this while saying that if Russia was to invade Ukraine they wouldn't intervene.

Thus: NATO didn't properly handle a crisis it could have handled with diplomacy. The crisis was between Russia and NATO, Ukraine is probably just a scapegoat. Not solving the crisis and ensuring you won't intervene in the war leaves Russia upset with the diplomatic outcomes and free to invade as there will be no military repercussions.

The responsibility for this invasion is partly of the west, who could have handled the question and prevented it.
Rather than insulting Russia and treating it with no respect, with such things as removing it from the G8.

@arjen
This is clearly not true, people there have small feuds with the west.
Hard sanctions will give the regime a better way to propaganda against the west.

A whole new wave of Russophobia will result from recent events; like many nations' "leaders", Putin cares not, but we must be better. Don't let any regime sunder your bonds with the Russians you know and love; now more than ever, we must stand together in a spirit of brotherhood.

in you can write a DM addressed to no-one, and it'll be “sent” and it'll show up in your “direct messages” timeline (as sent to yourself). Useful for quick notes to self, stuff one's not yet ready to share, etc.

@tripu
A computer cannot plan the economy.
It doesn't matter how powerful it is, you have to take some political decisions which the computer cannot take.

Is it more appropriate to give a car to everyone or to produce only a few luxury cars or a mix of the two?
There's no way a computer can answer this question.

That said, it could definitely help the people taking those decisions to have a system that could show them what's possible and what the outcomes of certain decisions would be.

Mi sentirei in difficoltà se qualcuno mi conoscesse qui dentro, sono felice di poter parlare con persone che non mi conoscono

@adamasnemesis
Indeed, but it doesn't appear to me that anything has been done in the meanwhile to solve the crisis, thus I doubt something concrete is being planned right now.

I hope negotiation opens again so that we can find a solution and get back to good relations with our Russian neighbors.

@Scalva
Dipende: se il primo è di lato allora solo due rimbalzi

@arjen
I don't see these sanctions helping a revolution in any way.
These might exacerbate the feuds with the west and further polarize the population.

Moreover, you're delegating the prevention of the war in Ukraine to the Russian population rather than NATO leading a decent diplomacy.
It's more an excuse to hide the fact that NATO is largely responsible for this war.

This doesn't mean that the west is guilty and Russia is doing good.
