I didn't see the little peekaboo frog until after I got home and was editing my shots. #Photography #naturephoto

Hot economics take

Econ 101: In this simplified model, we assume that everyone has all the information, so we can ignore advertising and arbitrage. In more advanced courses, we will consider...

Libertarians: Nope, we're good! Let's build the economy on those assumptions.

Actual economy: *consists almost entirely of advertising and arbitrage*

Here on Earth we get sorta used to our nice round Moon. But moons don't necessarily need to be round. If they're small enough to avoid hydrostatic equilibrium (the gravitational method causing bodies to become spherical), they can take all sorta of shapes. For example, we have here a ravioli, a pancake, a potato, and an egg. Food for thought, amiright??

One of my favourite things I’ve.. sculpted? :) The creme from an Oreo, carved to look like Hadrian

@ahi technically, it is. I know this because I have a lot of experience burning things in my instant pot.

The burn notice is just a temp sensor on the bottom, and when it goes off bc the bottom is too hot, it turns off the heating element. If you've got it pressurized, I have found that it turns back on once the bottom cools a bit and things keep cooking as normal. If it goes off while you're trying to get it pressurized, you're screwed.

@The_Best_Smart what's even worse is when you search extensively and find nothing out of place, then you start to wonder, was there a loud crash, or am I just losing my mind?

@jcsheridan226 fortunate, I'm no longer in PA, so the Steelers aren't down locally. Basically means I'm saved from my own bad choices and I don't watch every game any more. It's been a rough couple of seasons...

Tomorrow at 7:15 AM ET, Orion will fly about 80 miles above the surface of the moon. You can tune in here: nasa.gov/nasalive #space #science #nasa #artemis

@bykimbo that was interesting, and while I agree that many of the changes mentioned made sense on Twitter, I'm not sure they would make sense here.

1: Twitter was a business. They had financial incentives to not allow people to stop engaging with their site. Once the Twitter migration ends, if most of the new users don't stick here, I'm not sure that will matter as much for a bunch of folks running their own servers. Nobody is losing their job as CEO of the fediverse if they don't show enough growth in Q4. So I'm not sure there is the same.... desperation.... to keep users engaged here.

2: while I'm sure that what he said is true about those changes getting more users to be more engaged, those engagements were not healthy. So much of the interaction on Twitter was toxic. Those algorithms didn't highlight the best of Twitter that you might have missed, instead they pushed outrage. I never came away from Twitter feeling good about humanity, yet I kept going back and checking out what was happening there.

So, it kind of boils down to the fact that Twitter considered more users to be the prize, no matter what it took to get them. And I just don't think the same incentives are in place here.

View down from a very high place in Petra.

Looking down on Al Khazneh, the Treasury, Petra from a tiny ledge. One of Petra's famous High Places. Possibly the scariest places I have ever been. It took me several attempts over a few years, and the help of lots of friends, to get to all of them.

I always follow back, & really appreciate & follow boosters
