Proboscidean (Mammoth) tusk section for #FossilFriday and #FieldPhotoFriday.
I was digging through a layer of #Pleistocene sandy overburden to reach a fossiliferous #Miocene strata, when my trowel hit something hard. It turned out to be the largest section of mammoth/mastodon tusk I have ever found. It measures approx. 2m long. Later analysis of the Schreger Lines in the tusk confirmed it was Mammoth.
Location : Peace River, #Florida, Bone Valley Formation.
@janakj @ai6yr Yeah, some people considered it irresponsible but no one at the restaurant did. Staff was fully informed. I was masked up in a big 3M N95. I spend most of my time at stoves and broiler under the fume extractor so my exhalations were being drawn up and blown out the roof. Lol. To our knowledge, nothing bad happened.
A woman was arrested for "chemical endangerment" for using drugs while pregnant. The problem: She wasn't pregnant. So officers released her, but told her if she gets pregnant in the next few month she will be re-arrested.
The people who told us we were overreacting when Roe was overturned were never arguing in good faith and also they were very wrong.

@ai6yr Wow. From first symptoms to a clear test took me 8 days, which I thought was a little slow. But I'm almost 70 so I'm not as sprightly as I once was. ![]()
@Timmy To be fair, steel mill security started it by shooting at strikers with machine guns.

Chile has some of the best skies for nighttime observing, thanks to its many high and dry desert mountains. The lack of moisture means most nights of the year are cloud-free 😎🌌

@VRubinObs I was a teen amateur astronomer grinding mirrors and building telescopes in the 1960s and it was my planned career. Then in the second year of college I realized I'd never make any money as an astronomer and switched to engineering. Lol. But I keep an eye on the field, so to speak.
@patnspankme I've never reached 50/50 on any platform. It always seems I follow about twice the number that follow me. I'm just not that interesting.

If you're not aware, NASA is posting all the interesting JWST images to Flickr, in glorious full resolution. I just downloaded a 150MB image of the Tarantula Nebula. Find that and more here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nasawebbtelescope/albums
@lauren @karlauerbach @matt Hmm, I guess I'm not entirely correct. If I open the post I see the graphic at a good size. Only in the timeline is it really tiny. Good to know.
@lauren @karlauerbach @matt What I see displayed is a frame with the title of the blog post and a tiny image. I'm just used to the image displayed larger on other platforms.
