@lauren Oh yeah. Dining room and cafe are nice and comfy with an open fire too. Kitchen is wide open because it's usually too hot. You have to run the fume hoods, but when the air being sucked in from outside is at +1F, it's a big problem. We would normally have closed down but we had a full house of parties of 8 to 10 people with reservations made long in advance. So we had to tough it out.
@lauren This is the correct thing to do.
On the first day of Christmas: J. Robert Oppenheimer cleared of being suspected Soviet spy after 68 years. Manhattan Project physicist and "father of the atomic bomb" was infamously stripped of his security clearance in 1954. https://arstechnica.com/?post_type=post&p=1905727
@lauren Well, you could have come here and cooled off. The temp hovered around +1F Friday afternoon, night, and into Saturday. Temperature in the restaurant kitchen hovered around 35F during a 10 ten hour shift. Working next to the hot broiler I could still see my breath. Walked home from work in temp of +1F and 25 knot wind.
It's a character building experience, or so they say.
Merry Christmas to everyone who didn’t try to overthrow their government and commit a violent insurrection to attempt to stay in office!! 🎄🎁🎅🏻
I hope 2023 brings better things to you, my friends, than it does to TFG.

I wish I had better news about Buffalo but the city is in a state of emergency. To summarize the overnight police scanner:
- Hundreds of people trapped in cars.
- Thousands without power and freezing in their homes for 30h+
- Everything is on fire - cars, houses, everything.
- Emergency crews are trying but they're stuck. Fire engines breaking down all over the place. The Nat'l guard showed up and got stuck, too.
- 7 people are confirmed dead.

Descendants of executed Dakota 38+2 ride to Mankato to honor ancestors | MPR News
For what may be the last time, Dakota riders on horseback are braving bitter December weather to travel hundreds of miles to honor 38 men hanged in the largest mass execution in U.S. history. The ride also remembers the many others who died as a result of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862.
'The VIP Lane saw firms with little or no history of trading in PPE being awarded multi-million pound contracts without having to go through a tendering process. Arco – with a 135-year history in safety and PPE – was left in the dark.'

Mrs. Burcham scolded me sternly, warned there would be severe consequences if this ever happened again, and made sure to speak loudly enough so teachers and staff could hear.
She also did her best to hide the grin creeping on a corner of her mouth
RIP. She was a great educator
@olavf The funny thing is I don't miss it at all. That surprised me.
@olavf Yeah, I yanked the app over a month ago.
