@dangillmor I'm going to bet that most of them don't yet understand the problem they've encountered with Twitter.

@lauren There's a dental expert on TikTok going through tooth by tooth - they're all the same.

Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin Jr, pilot of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module and the second person to set foot on the Moon, was born #OTD in 1930.

Happy 93rd birthday, Buzz. You walked all over that Moon’s face.

Most Internet users are totally oblivious to the fact that a case before the U.S. Supreme Court right now, other cases to come, and an array of politically-inspired regulatory efforts, stand a good chance of decimating UGC (User Generated Content) on the Web. This will be true even if the current Supreme Court case doesn't end badly.

Politicians and governments around the world, including in the U.S., are rushing to turn the Internet into a politically controlled, uber-censored version of China's Internet, complete with forcing everyone to be fully identified with government ID for access to most sites (using "protecting children" as the talking point).

It's coming boys and girls, and what's even scarier is Big Tech like Google seems to not fully understand what's at risk and how best to push back. Timid approaches won't suffice -- this is a war, with government pushing to turn the Internet into a tool for total control of their populations.

Inside the Controversial Sales Practices of the Nation’s Biggest Title Lender

Former TitleMax store managers told ProPublica and The Current about how they were trained to keep customers unaware of the true costs of their title pawns. When they were more transparent, they faced repercussions. propublica.org/article/inside-

The cat just went over to the HomePod mini on my desk, meowed at it, and Siri said "sure here is some music for you" and the cat perched on the window sill listening to Garbage and Elliott Smith.

I just want to know how long this has been going on.

@mjausson @petergleick I fear that exactly this is coming in the future but on a scale far beyond wildfire problems in California. Hunger and fresh water shortages on a vast scale worldwide are coming. There will be a major reduction in the human population due to lack of food and/or water.

And it's not just me seeing this. It was foreseen 20-plus years ago by the U.S. military who have been studying how to deal with the worldwide unrest that is to come. But what can we do? We can't reverse climate change. This die was cast long ago and now we have to ride out the consequences.

@petergleick It will be unstoppable. I can't help but laugh at states in the U.S.A. that are trying to ban electric vehicles in order to keep the oil business going.

No small number of politicians here have even begun to grasp what is coming and that's not good if they are to lead us. I'd love to have a discussion with them.

Valentina Tereshkova shortly after landing in Vostok 6.

- From the moment of landing to the landing of a detachment of soldiers, at least 2.5 hours passed, - says Valentin Agarkov.

- There was freedom there. And they went into the cabin, and ate all the tubes of space food, and drank the water that had been in space. The children even tore off the charred skin of the ship.

@timcore@mstdn.social That would work and would be a common approach to security. Make it too expensive to retrieve.

However, in the case of a laptop, destruction would be easy and 100 percent effective. If you have a friend who works at a foundry with an EAF (electric arc furnace) or a steel mill, have him take it to work and chuck it in.

Wait until about 1:10 in the video when they wind the power up to 40 MW and lower the electrodes.

@olavf Ah yes, the floating effect at high speed. My hotrod in the early 70s would do this at around 125 to 130 MPH. Needless to say, I didn't push it. It worked out well, by accident, since this was also its top speed in the 1/4 mile.

As you know, cars have to be designed to go fast. Air becomes remarkably solid at high speeds, the force increasing with the square of the speed. Lol. Yikes.

@timcore@mstdn.social The CIA will find it anyway and NSA has methods already developed for recovering laptops encased in concrete. Lol. ;-)

(Actually, they almost surely do.)

@ai6yr This has to be a joke. It's beyond stupid. And these people are running a SCHOOL?

I mean, nobody at the school knows anyone with the basic smarts to fix this? Every parent is clueless? A basic fix could be achieved by any competent electronics hobbyist. No ham radio people around or anyone who knows one?

As a last resort, maybe call an electrician???

Sigh. Sadly, I'm not actually that surprised. smh. We're all doomed.

I just love all of you. Our journey is really difficult and I find joy when I read nice stories about everyone’s unique journey on Fedi.
It relaxes me and make me fall asleep with a smile.

This. This is exactly it. There is a tipping point where something that is annoying and a little disruptive becomes dangerous and most patients have no way of knowing when that will occur. 👇

@emilylhauser I'm always very proud to have been born and raised in West Los Angeles / Hollywood. This makes me even prouder if that's possible.
