@kimberlyseville No significant walking. 15 to 30 feet max to the door, shaded from the sun except in the morning. But we're never open in the morning.

The poll is still running but I want to thank everyone who has voted and expressed views and opinions. This poll is turning out much more useful and informative than I expected.

Thank you all!!!

@kimberlyseville Oh, to your other question, a server is there to greet people as they come in and take them to their table.

@kimberlyseville It's rare for people to arrive early but it does happen. Regular customers just sit in their car until 5 PM.

@kevinrns Because what's being done is all the prep -- salad made, bread prepped, tables set, candles lit, fireplace started, coffee made, broiler preheated, on and on. They're not ready for people to come in until 5 PM. It takes hours to get ready for customers to come in.

That's why people are divided on the question of whether to open a few minutes early.

@kevinrns Lol. Staff is here working two to five hours before opening time.

A fine-dining restaurant is open two days a week, Friday and Saturday, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Nearly all seating is by reservation. They've always unlocked the door at 5 PM sharp. It's been proposed to unlock the door 5 or 10 minutes before 5 PM so early arrivers can come in. Staff is sharply divided on this question. Owners are also divided.

So I thought I'd get some opinions from people who are not personally involved. Feel free to express your opinion / boost. I'm looking for input.

If you were a customer with a 5 PM reservation, would you expect the door to be unlocked:

I do not care if people quote toot me but if quote tooting is to be integrated is only fair that it be an opt-in feature.

I panicked when I saw #DollyParton was trending in the other place, then I found it was for the best-worst reason.

Get your shit together, Oklahoma

@cynblogger @chadloder @StillIRise1963 Doesn't matter anymore since, apparently, treason and sedition are no longer illegal if you're an elected official.

Utah didn’t ban youth hormone therapy such as testosterone boosters for cis boys. It didn’t ban “gender affirming surgery” such as breast augmentation for cis girls.

Just for trans kids.

You know, in case you’re wondering if lawmakers are really out to “protect the children” like they claim.

Give me a break.

@chadloder
Elon dumped dozens of far right accounts into my timeline like I followed them, then twitter silently hid, did not deliver , my tweets telling my followets what they had done.

Twitter did not prevented my tweeting, it didnt show rules then prevent tweeting against the rules.

👉They let me tweet, then didnt deliver any of them, to any followers in any time line.👈

@Amazing_Facts Well, it was a heck of a lot safer than working with blasting oil (nitro).

My best friend of many years, now deceased, worked his way through college working at a mine making nitroglycerin. He told me all about it. He worked in a shack at the top of a hill, all by himself.

@sara Also, West Virginia. Climate change is fun, or so I'm told.

I believe mastodon.social might be under a DDoS attack currently, investigating. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Yup. That's why I do it -- to let the poster know I read their post and support their posting of it.

That's also why I like the star here on Mastodon. I don't like hearts or likes. I may not like what you posted but I'm glad you posted it.

@opsnlops Well, at least you've gotten your feet wet now. Any other steppers you acquire will be the same. All your knowledge applies.

It's been a while so I don't remember but 750 uS for a full step seems pretty damned fast. Small motors are faster, of course. They also make ones with minimal mass so they step faster, but the tradeoff is less available torque. I was working with pretty chonky ones the size of my fist. I want to say 250 full steps per second was about it for those. (Until I built my ridiculous power-wasting arrangement.)

Steppers are SO useful if you build machines. Definitely worth gaining experience with them.

@opsnlops Oh. Writing bug-free code is very do-able. I built much of my career on the ability to do that quickly. It can be done.

Yeah, the speed is limited by your power supply voltage and the inductance of the windings in the motor. The specs for the motor should indicate maximum stepping speed, and half-stepping speed.
