@rbreich Indeed. Back when I started investing in the market (1960s), the stock market was a decent measure of the economy. That's changed completely. I still invest but it's a whole different game that has nothing to do with the economy. I don't like it and I find it disturbing.

@johnwehrle@mastodon.social Hah. Yes. Many times in the past I have been harshly accused of being a "buzz-kill", posting comments that spoil everyone's fun and bring a popular thread to a screeching halt.

Over the years I seem to have become much better at not doing that. But at the same time, I don't see that I've changed much.

It seems to me that the users have changed and are not so sensitive anymore. I dunno. At least they don't get made when I do it.

I had one recently that was ham radio related. There was a vigorous discussion of antenna theory underway and several people were citing Kirchhoff's Circuit Laws in their arguments. So I pointed out that Kirchhoff's Laws do not apply to antennas AT ALL, by definition. That was a brutal buzz-kill and nobody said a word.

@npr Yup. This wouldn't work for all businesses of course, but we've squashed it down to just two days a week. We work like maniacs for two 12 hour shifts, and then have 5 days to recover and do our own thing. It's great. Productivity is the same. Profitability is up because of increased efficiency. Workers have far more time off and its contiguous time so they can actually do something other than eat, sleep, and get dressed for work.

@Jirikiha That's a good way to put it. Gingrich is sometimes credited with the idea of "flooding the zone with shit". But in the modern era it was Mussolini who came up with this tactic.

At least this is a defamation case so it has a chance of sticking. Fox has been sued various times in the past for telling lies and it never sticks. Fox's lawyers argue that Fox doesn't provide news, it provides entertainment and parody. The name of the show just happens to be Fox News. And the case gets thrown out.

But defamation is different. It will be harder to hide behind the "parody defense".
