@futurebird @TruthSandwich Yes, we need to do more.
One good thing is part of the process is demoralization. Western weapons are doing that. When they launch 100 missiles and two make it through, it looks really bad. When they launch a highly touted unstoppable hypersonic missile and it's shot down by a Patriot, it looks really bad. And the Patriot system shares data with all other batteries and learns as it goes. The more you use it, the better it gets.
@TruthSandwich @futurebird Exactly. No. The Russians must not only depart from all of Ukraine but pay damages. To get them to the point where they agree, we must continue to bleed out their economy.
@sundogplanets Hmm. I didn't think of that. The troughs were next to a barn that had electricity, too.
@indivisibleteam Low crime doesn't sell newspapers or garner clicks. The crime rate in the U.S. (with the exception of auto theft) is the lowest it's been since the 1960s. But the media has everyone convinced it's the opposite. Virtually all Republicans and most Democrats think crime is high right now. Because of the gun culture in the U.S., everyone thinks they need guns to protect themselves. Here in West Virginia, anyone who is anyone packs heat -- doctors, nurses, psychologists, businesspeople, expecially women, all of them.
Republicans have argued for 40 years that they're the law-and-order party. (Ignore the fact that most politicians busted for crimes are Republicans). So people vote for Republicans because they are so afraid of a non-existent threat that they carry guns on their person at all times.
@elronxenu @DrJackBrown After the court rules against Trump. Seems to me they must. To do otherwise is to say the Constitution doesn't mean what it says.
@lovelylovely @joeinwynnewood No, they are not. It's a widespread form of mental illness. This is going to be a problem going forward that will be with us for a long time.
@elronxenu @DrJackBrown Yes, it applies to anyone running for elected office, anywhere in the country.
Mayor, sheriff, councilman.
@erictopol Meanwhile much can still be done toward avoiding it altogether, as even our own governments know but will not assist much toward doing: https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2023/10/30/DIY-air-filter-viruses/2181698680784/

“Federal labor officials accused the rocket company SpaceX on of illegally firing 8 employees for circulating a letter critical of #Musk.
According to a complaint, the company fired the employees in 2022 for calling on SpaceX to distance itself from social media comments by Musk, including one in which he mocked sexual harassment accusations against him”
@maggiejk Yup. I just tested positive today.
@skykiss She should immediately be disbarred.

Russian tactics seem clear - they stockpiled missiles for months, then started campaign once aid deliveries started to slow. They probably hope to exhaust UA's interceptor missile stocks before they can be replaced. From #Kyiv, actions of US Republicans and Putin seem coordinated.
Republicans are effectively helping wanted war criminal Putin.
Republicans MUST urgently unblock military aid to 🇺🇦 #Ukraine, or Putin will be able to unleash the full force of his arsenal.
Russia will 1) retain Ukrainian territories, showing West is too weak to stop land-grabs by authoritarians, 2) rebuild its military to attack Ukraine in future, 3) leave millions of Ukrainians under the power fascist dictatorship Russia.
Putin will be emboldened by success, and might feel he can test NATO.
Then the world really might face the threat of nuclear war.
Meanwhile, on the propaganda front, Russian trolls want to amplify the false impression that Russia is going to defeat Ukraine, with the goal of undermining Western support.
@sundogplanets I remember it well, vividly, going out in subzero temps to smash the ice on the horse watering troughs with a hammer. This had to be done about every two hours.
I don't miss it.

The hardest part about refuting Y2K disinfo is how many problems were fixed quietly, in part to mitigate risk of ligitation (negligence, etc.). People have stories they can't tell.
At this point, I think enough years have passed that a formal amnesty - to encourage companies to disclose just how bad some of the problems were - would be in our historical best interest.
