We had another freedom shooting today, in Iowa this time. For those of you who don’t live in the U.S., we safeguard our freedom here by ensuring that anyone who thinks some person/people need killing is able to shoot them immediately, and every day someone decides to celebrate this basic freedom.

My talk "Go: What we got right, what we got wrong" at GopherConAU is now available to all.

@Free_Press I guess the Ukrainians aren't bribing them while the Russians are.

WEATHER CHAOS

People who got trapped in 1,000 vehicles in heavy snow for more than 24 hours have been evacuated, Swedish authorities say.

Rescuers worked through the night to free people stuck on the main E22 road in the Skane area of southern Sweden.

Many of those trapped were evacuated by rescue teams and told to return to their cars later.

The travel chaos occurred amid plummeting winter temperatures across the Nordic countries.

@lauren Well, it does, you know. You can see it going around. Duh.

;-)

It's reported that 25% of Americans believe that the FBI was behind the January 6th attack on Congress. It's notable that in a survey not that many years ago, almost exactly the same percentage of Americans said that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

@knittingknots2 Not surprised. I took it long ago to cure malaria and studied the pharmacology carefully before doing so. It worked. It's not good for you and can kill you. After all, it's a poison designed to kill parasites in your blood.

Life is full of choices for the lesser of two evils.

Insurance companies are forcing psychiatrists like me to stop accepting their coverage

I love this quote about health insurance:

"This is the business model — customers pay for the right to be deprived of the product they’re purchasing."

@darwinwoodka @ai6yr Sorry to hear that. For the first two days, resting up wasn't an option. I could only stay up for 30 to 45 minutes and had to lay down and sleep for 90 minutes. At night I slept for 12 hours straight, which is double my normal.

Today I've been up for 2-1/2 hours so far with no trouble.

@darwinwoodka @ai6yr Yeah, skyrocketing. Rule of thumb is big surges always begin with a strong start.

Part of me is hoping that it is JN.1 because this will give me immunity through the surge yet to come.

I guess that would make me an early adopter.

@ai6yr When the test came up positive, my first thought was, all righty. Finally, a chance to do radio.

But the first 2-1/2 days of symptoms included severe sinus headache so my brain wasn't willing to do anything more than keep my breathing going.

But today, the sinus headache is down, replaced by sore throat and severe body aches. So there's hope. As long as my brain is working I can do radio.

@ai6yr I assumed it was one of the XBB variants but then looked at the data. JN.1 is off to a supersonic start, accounting for 43 percent of new cases right now. That means a big surge is coming. Models predict it to peak at the end of January. And JN.1 has a new spike protein so it gets around all the vaccines.

We shall see said the blind man.

@ai6yr BTW, I'm in the middle of my second round of Covid. Had it two years ago. I'm fully vaxxed and boosted with the lastest as of 30 days ago so I'm guessing it's the JN.1 variant.

@ai6yr I'd take it if I could walk to the pharmacy and buy it, like in civilized countries. Lol.

@ai6yr Speaking of wicked fast, there's a roofing company in town here that employs 13 men from Guatemala. Talk about wicked fast. They can strip to the rafters and re-roof a house in one day. When they get to the nailing stage it sounds like a full-blown war going on. Haha.
