The beginning of the unloading and selection platform at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It was located between two sectors of the camp.

This is where trains with people deported to the camp - mainly Jews from Hungary - arrived from mid-May 1944. Most of them right after selection were murdered in gas chambers.

The assholes chanting in the streets and on campuses in support of Houthi terrorism in the Red Sea also tend to support the Assad regime. I look forward to seeing them pick which one they love more now that Houthi violence against global trade is affecting bread prices in Syria.

(I'm kidding. They'll never see stories like this. They know nothing about the Middle East and the only "news" they get about the ME comes from TikTokers and podcasters who also don't know shit.)

@schwa Okay, now I'm jealous. (For the food. I don't care about the view. ;-)

@lovelylovely It goes back much farther. Christofascists (if that's a word) go back to when they realized they could never get what they want through democracy. In the 1960s, the game was already changing to one of subverting democratic government, hobbling it to make it fail and look bad to the public

By the 1980s, the move to take over the legislatures of at least two-thirds of the states was underway. The objective there was to call a Constitutional Convention and rewrite the whole thing in a manner that pleased them. They very nearly succeeded and they're still uncomfortably close. Most ordinary citizens don't even know this is possible. Yes, the U.S. Constitution is an astounding document because the means for its own destruction is built in. They intend to use it.

Anyway, that's where the cheating, Gerrymandering, voter-suppression, disenfranchisement of felons, careful manipulation of the Electoral College, etc., etc. comes from. It's organized and intentional. They can't get what they want in a fair vote so they're gradually compromising the whole system.

@lovelylovely Exactly. They've been here for a long, long time. Really since the Civil War, they just weren't called Nazis. I've been aware of them since the 1960s.

@ai6yr Yep. Had the same problem at the restaurant. When I got to it, various Mickey Mouse repairs had been made by others. Plus halogen bulbs, hot transformers, bleah. But we're now in the era of LEDS so I ripped it all out and replaced it. Been running for years now and people don't even remember what a constant hassle was. But I remember.

So the CPUC is having their virtual meeting on AT&T's proposal to abandon California subscribers ("Thank you for using AT&T. Now drop dead!).

I've already started working on my presentation for that mid-March meeting, with remote participants such as I by phone. I'm willing to bet that they've never heard a submission to a proceeding like I have planned. Hint: It will be in my best radio voice. You asked for this, AT&T. And you're going to get it.

@RickiTarr Ms. Crowley has no knowledge of history, apparently.

Having worked for 15 years as an engineer in the field of physical security, I can tell you it's basic knowledge that walls do not work unless actively defended along their entire length.

@randahl Or just a legend. That looks like Trump's popularity among Republicans versus Biden's popularity among all voters.
