Today is Thanksgiving Day, and it is also the National Day of Mourning, which remembers the genocide of millions of Native Americans and their ongoing erasure today.

In giving thanks today, let us also reflect and act to stop the ongoing genocide of America's Indigenous Peoples.

@freemo I considered a humorous presentation of my pronouns but decided against it. The topic of pronouns is not yet mature enough in society for people to have a sense of humor about it, but it will come.

Wishing you all a #happythankgiving - personally giving thanks, amongst other things, for having escaped the bird’s mired nest …

@UncleDuke1969 Now, if only there was such a thing as antipasta, we might have warp drive already.

@truthsandwich Been reading. I see I have much to learn. I've never ventured beyond the single-column default layout with column switching. Tomorrow I'll plunge into it and see what kind of mess I can make. I have a wide display. Might as well use it.

@humantransit All geeks and nerds, specialists in any field, sound "elitist" to people who don't speak the lingo. It sounds like "Greek".

This is the nature of the beast. As something of a polymath, I've often told people not to be afraid of a new subject or field. Don't be put off by the terminology. Instead, learn the terminology. Once you know the terminology and how to use it, you're 80 percent of the way to learning the field because you can read and understand what you read.

When you first begin, it's like a brick wall and you're already lost on page 2. Push through it. Read the book even though it seems you're not understanding anything. In fact, your brain is picking up clues. Then read the book again and be amazed at how much more sticks.

@digital_carver @freemo Yes, indeed. It's not that hard to be polite and civil. I am occasionally snarky and sarcastic with friends that I know well enough but not with others.

A good lesson is to watch posts by The Onion (snark, sarcasm, parody). Despite the fact they're famous and have been doing it for 25 years, often more than half the responses are from people who don't get the sarcastic humor, don't realize that it is humor.

For a long time, when I'd read a comic with Lex Luthor in it, and he'd be... I dunno, conspiring with a guy who's super power is that he is mediocre at riddles, and maybe Solomon Grundy or someone like that, in order to launch their army of poison turtles into Metropolis, I'd scoff and say, "it's unrealistic that the world's richest man would waste his time and money on something that's only going to showcase to the world how incompetent he is."

I owe DC comics an apology.

@truthsandwich I'm no help on that one. But now I'm studying this pin-a-column thing. Haha. (Just because I've been on Masto for four years doesn't mean I know much.)

@truthsandwich I guess I should mention that I have set up hashtag filters for and that appear to be working well.

@truthsandwich I look forward to any replies. I have the same question. I've barely scratched the surface of Mastodon's features like lists and circles.

Not sure if I should Follow a hashtag or pin it to a column. Any ideas?

After @ChadLoder tweeted about a massive data breach on #Twitter this evening #ElonMusk suspended him on that platform. I took these screenshots just now from the web as I am currently suspended from Twitter for an alleged violation but I'm trying to get the word out. This is a NEW breach. Elon looks like he may be in big dodo! #FTC #DataBreach #ChadLoder #TwitterDataBreach

@luckytran I've been participating in Outbreaks Near Me, formerly Flu Near Me, for years. But while they support the reporting of symptoms, I'm shocked they have no mechanism for reporting test results.

Looks like the NIH has set up a new website so that people in the US can finally report home test results: makemytestcount.org/

Hopefully these results will be made public soon, and are factored into policymaking, as current data may be undercounting by as much as 20x.

Looks like Jordan Peterson has addressed a packed room of Liberal/National MPs and One Nation MPs .

Jordan Peterson is a rampant and well documented transphobe.

Apparently the invitations were sent out by Matt Canavan. Scott Morrison and Andrew Hastie sat in the front row and Jacinta Price also attended.

We have to make sure transphobia does not get a foothold in Australia.
