As Twitter kicked me out of the so-called digital town square, I'm trying to embrace the open source Mastodon with high hopes.
Please say hello and help me to navigate through this new app.

Stuck in the echo chamber of hate:

#Twitter has become a ticking time-bomb and it's getting worse every day. And yet we still have not seen the mass-exodus of journalists everyone would have expected after #Musk banned a dozen of them for flimsy reasons, claiming they would have been a threat to his safety.

Why is the media so dependent on Twitter that it's holding itself hostage on a platform that's obviously turning against them?

He waited until everyone on the East Coast was asleep to suspend @taylorlorenz, a frequent target of far right threats and harassment.

Sheer cowardice.

Mastodon Migration

@evangreer Not anecdotally. For real. Around 125K new users joined Mastodon in the last 48 hours. This is 5x normal rates. It is a moderate wave, and the influx of new users is still well above normal. Mastodon handled the surge very well with only minor impact on the performance of the network.

For more information you can follow this link which tracks Mastodon stats:

Just as the news media couldn't aggregate the Trump story - to create an evolving image of a criminal rather than the stagnant picture of a strange politician - they can't aggregate the #elon story.

They can't stop framing him as a boy genius. They think money = smart because money = power.

The instant #twitter began banning journalists - regardless of whether those bans were rescinded - elon showed his hand. If one adds that info to the aggregate - one cannot go back to twitter and treat it as any sort of legitimate information crossroads.

One last thing the news media has been slow to aggregate and thus report? #Mastodon itself.

They remain miles behind this curve. Post isn't the answer because algorithms! Only the fediverse - flaws and all - can work as the public square environment because NO ONE can own it. And therefore NO ONE can impose a self-serving algorithm upon the rest of us and our experience here.

I'm here for the content. I'm here to provide content. Twitter no longer serves my - or any honest creator's purpose. That's just a fact.

I would just like to say that I am boosting because everyone says to do that. But what some people say! I mean, really!

@BlackAzizAnansi Elmo has little understanding of people and he's not very bright so none of this is surprising.

@W0ABE No, there isn't. The very hardest part is getting up the courage to do it at all. There's always an excuse to put it off until later. It's like the opposite of quitting smoking. Your mind can come up with a thousand excuses not to do it. Haha.

But I can assure you it's worth it to begin, and make the first few dozen contacts, and realize you can actually do it. There is so much fun waiting for you.

CW is a blast, and very useful, but it has the steepest learning curve of anything I know, which puts people off.

@cra1g You'd expect this with that lineup. The Plaid is not a supercar like the Chiron with 1,600 hp. It's just the fastest Tesla (until the new Roadster comes out). Tesla doesn't make supercars. I mean, that's more horsepower than a top fuel dragster had when I first got into drag racing in the 1960s. The Chiron has a top speed close to 300 MPH but is computer limited to 240.

@W0ABE Congratulations! May it be the first of many.

The first one is the hardest. I still remember mine. My hands don't sweat, nice and dry. But not that time. I literally left drips and puddles of sweat on the table that all came from my hands. Hahahaha. It was crazy. It was intense.

This is significant ...

The German office for data protection and freedom of information hosts the official #Mastodon server for government departments

They are now calling for all ministries on the server to put their focus on Mastodon

They are also asking ministries which are not yet on Mastodon to join as soon as possible
