My husband bought a black face mask for walking in the cold and now my amazon front page is really scary and disturbing...it looks like my amazon front page is about to rob a convenience store. Or maybe blow something up.

It’s sad the BBC foreign language services are being closed but I am also concerned that the remainder are moved online. Compared to broadcast radio, online services are easier to block and easier to surveil who is listening. Sometimes low-tech solutions are the best for privacy. middleeasteye.net/news/bbc-ara

Okay, apparently the National Weather Service isn't on here yet, and Twitter hasn't imploded, so I added three new #NWS bots. @NWSHonolulu_bot @NWSHouston_bot and @NWSCaribou_bot for #Hawaii #Texas and #Maine #wx #weather

A linguistics professor was lecturing on the role of the double negative, noting that in some languages like Russian a double negative remains negative, while in other languages like French a double negative becomes positive. However, the professor observed, in no language in the world does a double positive become negative. From the back of the classroom a student replied, "Yeah. Right."

@MarSolRivas @Sky4Sushi There was considerable pain and suffering for the four years that it took (my early teens). But I was glad I did it once I became an adult.

@colorfiend Thank you for commenting. I can argue both sides of this, so I'm fishing for opinions.

@mntle Except on nights like New Years Eve and Valentines Day, customers are encouraged to go slow and spend as much time as they like. A lot of our food is cooked to order so it takes a while. We lock the door at 9 PM but anyone already in can stay. We'll stay as long as necessary to serve them. Last week we had a party of 15 spend 4 hours in the restaurant. Hah.

@matt Good question. Our customers are almost always right on time. If the reservation is for 6:45 PM, they're usually there on the dot. They sometimes call while en-route to let us know.

More than half of our customers are "regulars" and order hot appetizers to be on the table when they walk in. So timing is pretty precise.

A fine-dining restaurant is open two days a week, Friday and Saturday, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Nearly all seating is by reservation. They've always unlocked the door at 5 PM sharp. It's been proposed to unlock the door 5 or 10 minutes before 5 PM so early arrivers can come in. Staff is sharply divided on this question. Owners are also divided.

So I thought I'd get some opinions from people who are not personally involved. Feel free to express your opinion / boost. I'm looking for input.

If you were a customer with a 5 PM reservation, would you expect the door to be unlocked:

This project -- a mobile app that helps you understand corporate spying on you, and do something about it -- is a GREAT move by Consumer Reports.

CR, a venerable nonprofit, was slow to understand and adapt to the digital era. But with a much savvier board and leadership, and support from people like @craignewmark, the organization is making brilliant moves to help all of us.

At the protests in Los Angeles tonight, there were multiple stringers with professional camera rigs acting aggressively, shoving people, getting in people's personal space, and trying to provoke fights. After the protests disbanded, at least three of these stringers were seen huddling with LAPD.

I have a video from tonight, with audio, of Zak Holman appearing to encourage paparazzi videographer Keith Johnson of Wow Media LLC to file what I believe amounts to a false police report. A reluctant Johnson is repeatedly asked to file a police report for an assault that did not occur, and even after Johnson says he's good and not hurt, he is being pushed and even coached on exactly what to say. Someone forgot to mute their microphone.

@LGsMom Hmm, I dunno. Just bear in mind that cartridges are not engineered to be used more than once. You're supposed to use them and throw them away. So I always feel lucky I can refill them at all so I'm very careful with them.

I don't think I've ever had one of the old Sheaffer school pen cartridges leak even after many refillings. I have had some internationals fail, though.

If you're really serious about capacity, Sheaffer school pens can be easily used as eyedropper fill. All you need is a little silicone grease to put on the threads of the feed. Fill the whole barrel with ink and screw it on. No cartridge. Works great. I wish I'd known that when I was a kid, too. That's a ton of ink capacity. For this I prefer the 1950s vintage school pens.

Now with the TWSBI pens I no longer do that. They have enough capacity to get me through days of writing.

Wow. A genuinely impressive win in the fight against ransomware. FBI seizes Hive ransomware gang's leak site and victim decryption keys, saving $130 million in victim ransom payments.
