@w7voa Hah! Sugar cane problems. That's certainly a unique cause for the problem.
@lauren Just checked now. Same behavior as before. The ON AIR is blinking red. The player says "OFFLINE" and is unresponsive to clicks. The volume control on the player opens if I click it, set to about 80 percent. But if I try to change the setting, it drops to zero, shows mute, and refuses to budge after that.
The popup version of the player does the same thing.
Just to be sure, before going to the site tonight, I disabled all protections for that site (tracker blocks etc).
Strange.
@osma Haha. No. All of the homes around here were built between 1885 and 1925. This one was built before electricity came along here. Nobody thought about energy efficiency then. It was originally heated by a coal furnace and a double-sided fireplace. Later converted to gas. Now I run a remarkably efficient condensing furnace.
@charlotteclymer I was waiting to see that ad and it was garbage. Exactly what I expected from its phony Christian sponsor.
Real Christianity is quiet and unexciting. It's quite difficult for many people. It's not a weapon. It's not something you can use to beat other people over the head with.
Unfortuately, this is boring to many people and frustrating to those who want to bust heads yet still claim Christianity because of the perceived perks it brings. So they keep trying to weaponize it.
@lauren I can't get the desktop player to work. But it's late and I have to sleep. I'll mess with it tomorrow night.
This is totally cool.
@lauren Wow. Thanks for that. Hahaha. Very cool.
@lauren Yeah, never underestimate a primate. Hah.
@osma I'm a yuge fan of EVs but I'll readily admit they're not enough to solve the CO2 problem alone.
What about heating? That's a big one. When the temperature drops in the Northeastern US, I can almost hear millions of gas furnaces firing up, blowing out loads of CO2. Heating my house here in West Virginia blows out way more CO2 than my car. It's not even close.
@opsnlops Yes! That's exactly how it goes. For me it was usually when I was driving, which I did quite a lot when I was doing a lot of engineering. For my engineer partner, it was the shower. Solutions would come to him in the shower and sometimes he'd finish, head back out to his truck at midnight, and back to the lab.
There are various theories about this. There is no right/left brain dichotomy, or we don't think so, but for some it sure feels like it. For me it seems like I have two brains, one is intuitive, the other is sharply focused and reasons everything. The second is also the part that like to talk a lot (mentally). It feels to me like the intuitive part has far more compute power on tap, able to comfortably handle immensely complex problems, but it doesn't express itself very well in linear "speech" terms.
The sensory input of the shower on your skin or the monotony of driving seems to get the left brain to shut the hell up long enough that the right brain can present the solution it has. And there it is, poof, fully formed solution without any talking, diagrams, or arithmetic.
It's really fun when that happens.
@StevenSavage Hah! What has me puzzled is the most recent object shot down. It was octagonal, at 20,000 feet, and had no balloon, no visible means of support. We don't know how it was hovering there.
@ClaraListensprechen@universeodon.com Perhaps the plan is for the rocket bombing to be stopped by the time the factory is ready.
The Russians can't keep this up forever and certainly not against Western manufacturing. Yes, we were caught flat-footed, but word went out some time ago from the governments of several arms making countries to the makers, including in the U.S., to step on it, hard.
Rapid ramp-up is part of the arms game. They know they'd better deliver or it's going to go badly for them in future contract negotiations and new systems.
“Jesus doesn’t have an image problem, but Christians & their churches do. These campaigns end up being PR for the wrong problem. Young people are savvy. They are digital natives who understand the difference between slick marketing and authenticity. One of their primary issues with evangelicalism, and the modern church in America, is the amount of money spent on itself.” #HeGetsUs

"The internment of Japanese American citizens remains one of the darkest and most shameful periods in our history,” said U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, who joined with U.S. Rep. Doris Matsui, D-Calif., the Norman Y. Mineta Japanese American Confinement Education Act.
@Joaquincastrotx They know it and do it on purpose. Nobody seems to get busted for incitement anymore.
Physicist John Tyndall is often credited with discovering the greenhouse effect, which he wrote about in 1859.
But female scientist Eunice Foote published a paper - 3 years earlier - demonstrating how atmospheric water vapor & CO2 affected solar heating. She theorized that heat trapping gases in Earth’s atmosphere warm its #climate.
Tyndall was widely read. And Foote, being a woman, wasn't even permitted to present her own work. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/features/happy-200th-birthday-eunice-foote-hidden-climate-science-pioneer #history #science #ClimateChange
@morgfair Gawd, this is even worse than I expected, and I expected pretty bad.
In the Oireachtas (Irish parliament) at an entrance to the camber: Chinese Hikvision camera. Hikvision cameras have been caught reporting back to China, getting hacked, and are implicated in the persecution of Uyghurs. https://www.iccl.ie/news/iccl-calls-for-immediate-removal-of-hikvision-cameras-from-oireachtas/
