Do yourself a favor and reserve 10 minutes today to read this eye opening Oatmeal comic on the psychological "backfire effect”.
@lauren Hah. I'm used to it. Doesn't bother me. But it's not fun or interesting. It's *much* more fun to hang out with someone who knows stuff you don't, who makes one of your eyebrows go up, Spock style, until you "get it".
One of my favorites I've worked with is Dr. Norman Neidell. He's the "grand old man" of synthetic aperture seismic imaging. He's the best explainer I've ever met. He can stand at a whiteboard and take the most brain busting mathy problems, and give you a crystal clear understanding. Amazing. I love people like that.
@opsnlops Yup. .01 uF ceramics everywhere. Lol. Very important. With digital stuff, power supply rails with "blidgets and prangs" on them (as I call them) will ruin your day. Back in the early days of DRAM, this was the number one problem to look out for.
@lauren Oh, and yes, as you might guess, I've known a number of people I call "scary smart". All of them had significant flaws or "mental conditions" except one.
To be clear, my term "scary smart" isn't a bad thing. I love not being the smartest person in the room.
Oh yeah. My friend had many flaws, as do I, and he knew it. Hard to get along with for some, easy for others. He was wealthy, extremely smart, arrogant, understanding, generous, a polymath, rejected the ways of his ancient powerful New England family to go do life his way.
I miss him more than anyone I've known. We worked hard on engineering projects, occasionally drank ourselves into a stupor, told stories, cracked jokes. had lots of fun. Best friend ever.
@opsnlops So where did we end up on this? Did you track down the problem?
@lauren Me too. Agreed, agreed, and agreed. It appears he would be fun to hang out with but I sense you'd better have your brain running on all cylinders or it's going to be a short conversation. My best friend for decades, lost him in 2015, was like that.
Repeating myself for new followers.
I do random PRs for #opensource. My largest is making a #rustlang scripting language embeddable. According to GH search, it unlocked dozens of uses.

But I'm often I'm too busy/disorg to do more than small things, like writing #cicd for budding projects.
And yet, that''s my prob biggest impact: a Flash impl took off after I added bin releases w/Win MSI.

That's #foss: little things can make a great impact.
@Are0h I'd say the answer is no. Those who remain are those who are addicted to their follower count. There's absolutely no way they're going to walk away from 25,000 followers, no matter what happens, no matter how crazy Elmo gets. Their followers have become their reason for living, their reason to get up in the morning.
No tool can fix that.
He committed suicide shortly before going on trial for trafficking 15 kilograms of fentanyl from Mexico into America.

@ramin_hal9001 ICE vehicles have the same problem these days. Therefore, you can't depends on them. By design, they are not autonomous and therefore not completely reliable. Network goes down, and your car stops working.
Pretty useless.
@toomas_ilves Sounds like the Nazis of the 1930s and 40s. This is very Russian, though. The Rus have done this throughout history -- a plague on humanity.
Russia placed thousands of Ukrainian children in camps where they’re subjected to propaganda and forcible adoption by Russian families, a US government-backed report from Yale found https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-14/russia-put-6-000-ukrainian-kids-in-re-education-camps-yale-study-finds?utm_source=website&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=twitter via @bpolitics
@thechattygardener There's no such thing as too many tomatoes. ;-)
@opsnlops 60 Hz ripple? Is it a regulated supply? Adjustable? Is it possible you're drawing current pulses outside of it's range?
Can't wait to read the twitter files about this direct collusion between elected officials and the CEO of twitter
@opsnlops And this pops up just as I'm going to bed. Lmao. Figures.
If this is still unsolved on Wednesday, please give me a shout.
(My first thought is a "bench power supply" ought to produce very clean power. If it doesn't, the power supply is faulty. But we have to determine what you mean by bench power supply. ;-)
Good night. :-)
