Antisemitic tweets have more than doubled on Twitter since Elon Musk took over, a new study finds.
Asked for comment, Musk's press department auto-responded with a poop emoji. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/20/antisemitic-tweets-soared-twitter-after-musk-took-over-study-finds/

@arjun @CaliGal@mstdn.party @flexghost Yes it does. Also, the finding wasn't "inflexible" hard-wiring. That was never said. It describes tendencies.
For example, when people are presented with something weird and unfamiliar, some instinctively react with fear and some react with curiosity. This is the kind of difference described by the finding. These can be overridden by training and experience but who is going to do the training. Why should people want to change?
@KimPerales Governments will never learn, apparently. The ancient Chinese wrote about this.
What happens when you outlaw something that people want? Does it change the behavior? No. All that happens is you create a new class of criminals where there was none before and you drive the behavior underground.
This has been true for thousands of years. Yet, those who wish to control people continue to believe they can change behavior by outlawing. You can't. People do what they want, regardless of the law. They obey the laws they agree with because they want to.
A big downside to outlawing is that every time you outlaw something that people want to do, it reduces overall respect for the law and contributes to creating a scofflaw society. The advice from the ancient Chinese? Don't create stupid laws because they will be ignored and you will lose the respect of the people.
Antisemitism on Twitter has more than doubled since Elon Musk took over the platform – new research.
In the days after Elon Musk took over Twitter in October 2022, the social media platform saw a “surge in hateful conduct,” which its then safety chief put down to a “focused, short-term trolling campaign.” New research suggests that when it comes to antisemitism, it was anything but.
Rather, antisemitic tweets have more than doubled over the months since Musk took charge, according to research at tech firm CASM Technology and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue think tank conducted. https://theconversation.com/antisemitism-on-twitter-has-more-than-doubled-since-elon-musk-took-over-the-platform-new-research-201830
I've been reading books from 1918-1948 and about those years and it often makes me think of this quote.
I feel the world is in such a dark place and worse is probably around the corner. Texts about and from the period of the Spanish flu, '30s Europe, WW2... they're depressing, but also informative.
It's important to learn how societies slip into cruelty and repeat past mistakes (or strategies...) over again.
It helps to read about people surviving and questioning the world around them.
@CaliGal@mstdn.party @flexghost Yes, this would be the approach of an enlightened society, which we are not.
Critics at the time claimed that “Sherlock Jr” was lacking in stunts and special effects but nowadays literally every human alive disagrees with that and we’re right.

And all of this possible because Trump fell in love with fellow Fascist Kim and turned a blind eye when Kim created his nuclear program!

@CaliGal@mstdn.party @flexghost Yes, that study came out quite a while back. It's interesting that it didn't get much coverage in the news.
It's kind of depressing, though, because it means we're stuck with this hardware problem until the human species evolves it out of the gene pool.

@HamonWry How how long did it take you to recover?
@CaliGal@mstdn.party @flexghost it's probably more like a personality disorder. But in any case they are attracted to the Republican party. Just like control freaks and the insecure are attracted to law enforcement.
@CaliGal@mstdn.party @flexghost It's all the same thing, all interconnected. They want the thrill of doing something forbidden and getting away with it, so it's important that a bunch of things be forbidden by society. So lots of strict religion and phony morals are needed. Then, when they do those things, it's human nature to accuse others of doing those forbidden things in order to misdirect attention away from oneself.
@ai6yr Yes, the hive is warm. I kept a hive of bees 20 years ago and learned so much. Domestic bees really are domesticated. They learn to recognize you, they know you.
On a cold night you can warm your hands on the hive. On a cold day if you hold your hands near the entrance to the hive, some will come out and gather on your hands because they're warm.
Keeping that hive was one of the most fascinating and enjoyable things I've ever done.
