@wdlindsy I would imagine some "small consideration" was part of the deal. Trump is big on kickbacks.
"The giant trucking company Yellow is on the verge of bankruptcy and is shutting down, throwing 30,000 people, including 22,000 Teamsters union members, out of work.
Just three years ago, the Trump administration overruled the Pentagon to certify that Yellow was critical to maintaining national security, qualifying it for a $700 million federal loan during the pandemic."
In acquiring church status, the Family Resource Council told the IRS it holds chapel services at its office, averaging 65+ people. But when @ProPublica called to inquire about service times, a staffer responded, “We don’t have church service.”

"What radicalised you?"
Realising that Ronald McDonald statues are anti-homeless measures
OK, so the police made a mistake and did a license plate lookup using "AZ" (Arizona) rather than "AR" (Arkansas). That is understandable.
But why the guns and handcuffs? Can the officers articulate concrete reasons for this? (I seriously doubt that they can.)
Our police forces and officers are operating under the belief that that the officers are allowed to commit the most egregious abuses - including killing - if they have the most insubstantial grounds to believe they should be fearful.
That is wrong.
@RLetot @mastodonmigration Yes, of course. I tried all the standard combinations and formats, with and without the URL, URL plus username, with and without the at sign, and username instance. Nothing comes up. Haha. I'll try it again today and see what happens.
@pearlbear For some it's just a form of passive aggression, a form of trolling.
I've been an engineer for 50 years, been writing software for 55 years, have a slew of patents to my name, and you want me to give cites? Learn how to use a search engine.
@Sweetbee @DougWar40k @alisca It wouldn't be much of a change from the current oligarchy.
@alisca Exactly. Hahaha.
@Pandamoanimum We have two full-size refrigerators in this household, both over 25 years old. They run great and are efficient. (Compressors draw 120 to 140 watts when running).
I just laugh when my friends who drop several grand on a new Samsung needs repairs and then it fails entirely at 3 years. Hahaha.
@vosje62 @Pandamoanimum @fietsria I suspect you'd be very happy with the late 50s. I remember the late 50s, early 60s, and would turn the clock back in a heartbeat if I could.
@Pandamoanimum Hah. Hahaha. I'm laughing because I've expressed exactly this lament myself. What went wrong in the design department? Are modern refrigerators designed by people who only eat in restaurants and have never used a refrigerator?
The clumsy stupid inconvenient designs today just boggle the mind.
@geekgyrl Hmm, yes, when the day job interferes with Mastodoning. Hate it when that happens.
@clacke Yep. Still not getting it through my own instance with the "follow" option. The links take me to the BBC instance where it asks me to join the instance.
A search on BBC Radio 5 Live delivers only:
BBC Radio 5 Live
@bbc5live@bird.froth.zone
BBC Radio 5 Live
@bbc5live@bird.makeup
BBC Radio 5 Live
@bbc5live@birdsite.wilde.cloud
BBC Radio 5 Live
@bbc5live@beta.birdsite.live
BBC Radio 5 Live ![]()
@bbc5live@twtr.plus
So I'll wait for things to propagate some more.
@clacke Yes. I've searched on the standard form @user@url. I can find the BBC instances on the open Internet but not through my instance yet. (I haven't tried in the last hour.) If I search on BBC, all kinds of BBC presences appear like tweet bots, etc., but not the BBC's own instances -- yet. I'll try again now and see what I get.
