"Global economic losses could reach $5 trillion under a "plausible increase" in extreme weather events linked to climate change that cause crop failures and food and water shortages, insurance marketplace Lloyd's of London said on Wednesday... #climate #weather #ExtremeWeather #insurance
@glynmoody Their Calvinist / Puritan religion isn't based on the Bible. Puritanism has been poisoning North America ever since it was kicked out of Europe and fled here.

This whole article is nauseating. Any newspaper that would legitimize RFK Jr.'s batshit crazy racist conspiracy theories as "skepticism about the scientific and political establishment" must not collect any subscription revenue from anybody.
I'm begging everyone out there who still has a New York Times subscription to please cancel it immediately.
Seems like the purity scolders here on Mastodon have moved on from policing CWs to replies complaining about cross-posting and references to social media posts from other platforms.
Let's explore why this is really annoying. When you hijack a thread to scold the poster not only is it rude, you take the thread off in another direction. This is not cool. If you want to discuss something like cross-posting you are free to make your own post on the subject. Don't be a threadjacker.

@lovelylovely Might have gotten himself a Darwin award but he's so fat he got stuck.
@saluki That's impressive. I had no idea this was possible.
@charliejane I'm glad your blinders came off. Warren has been a bigot and racist for decades. Remember that university chair she occupied by pretending to be Native American? She kept the money she stole using that ruse. Never apologized, never refunded the money, never abdicated the prestige.
A Ukrainian flag keeps waving proudly in the building Russia destroyed in Kharkiv today.
Ukraine will stand.
Ukraine will stand tomorrow.
Ukraine will stand in the future!

@zachvat @laurahelmuth It's not really that great. The culling is focused on the U.S.A. which is only 4 percent of the world. ;-)
@laurahelmuth The damaged education system is responsible for producing people who don't understand how anything works. They turn to religion and hucksters that talk a good line and say what they want to hear. Institutions of higher education have become sports franchises. People barely read at a 6th grade level. Math knowledge is almost non-existent and even deprecated as something only weaklings and nerds know about.
Meanwhile, China is graduating more engineers every year than the U.S.A. graduates total in all majors combined. Every year.
It took generations to degrade from where we were in the 1960s to where we are now. It will take generations to reverse, if we even try.
The long-term outcome should be obvious and it's not pretty.
The anti-science movement is "organized, it’s well-financed, and it’s politically motivated. It’s doing a lot of damage to the country and to American science and scientists. And now it’s become a lethal force." https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/vaccine-scientist-warns-antiscience-conspiracies-have-become-a-deadly-organized-movement/
