I love this. Apparently, the oldest existing cat flap.
Exeter Cathedral has a 14th century door that is mentioned as an entrance for cats. From 1305 cathedral accounts show an allowance for quarterly payments of 13 pence “to the custors and the cats” (custoribus et cato, if you’re doing it in Latin). They kept the rats and mice down following a recorded incidence of mice eating a robe believed to have belonged to Joseph of Aramathea. Photo by Jeff Treadwell

It recently struck me that 27 years ago there was a movie with Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo playing drag queens, and if it came out today, someone would firebomb the theaters it was in. I'm not putting a sensitive warning on this picture because it's not fucking sensitive. its a movie that came out in 1995. things have moved backwards in a terrifying way.

For those that joined #Mastodon and grabbed the first server they could find, but would prefer to #migrate to a different one, I created a short guide on how to do this quickly and easily.
It also allows you to easily move any followers across to your new profile and leaves a redirection on your old profile for those that find it to help them get to your new one. 😁👍

I'd love if you could share it among your networks to help those that will invariably need it later on.

In 1941, Nazis asked the city of Amsterdam to make this map of Jews in the city. Each dot equalled 10 Jews.

In 2022, TX AG @KenPaxtonTX sought data from driver's licenses on #transgender Texans.

But don't worry. History never repeats itself. #LGBTQ+

Newly obtained records show how Leonard Leo, an architect of the right-wing takeover of the courts, has been funding groups pushing to change #elections and anti-discrimination laws.

Flush with money after receiving the largest-known political advocacy donation in U.S. history, #conservative activist Leo & his associates are spending millions of dollars to #influence some of the most consequential recent #SupremeCourt cases.

Via Ian Millhiser:

"The primary difference between Trump and DeSantis is that Trump is a lazy narcissist who wasn't interested in doing the job of president, while DeSantis is a hard-working authoritarian with well-thought out plans to remake the United States in the image of Viktor Orban's Hungary." ✔️

things user/profile systems fuck up, bad assumptions
- the user will never delete their account
- the user should be expected to individually delete their posts
- the user will never change their legal name
- the user will never change their email address
- the user will never change their phone number
- if they do change those things, surely they will think to use our change info ui before getting rid of their old name/phone number/email address
- the same as above, but with SSO linkages

So Musks' grand plan to stop bots was to

... deny access to Twitter from large swaths of the world.

...

That's a bold plan Cotton, let's see if it pans out.

#ElonMusk’s favorite political party (GOP) demands that all illegal immigrants go back where they came from. So, I hope he’s looking forward to running his empire out of South Africa

Small scoop that I'm breaking here first. InfraGard, a program run by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to
build cyber and physical threat information sharing partnerships with the
private sector, this week saw its database of contact information on more than
80,000 members go up for sale on an English-language cybercrime forum.
Meanwhile, the hackers responsible are communicating directly with members
through the InfraGard portal online -- using a new account under the assumed
identity of a financial industry CEO that was vetted by the FBI itself.

I've gotten a lot of responses to that Substack piece about leaving Twitter. Many are positive but some are negative. A few are saying "oh so you think free speech is nasty?"

What kind of stupid question is that? Of course I do. The Nazis marching at Skokie were nasty. All sorts of speech is nasty. Supporting free speech doesn't mean reserving judgment about it, you imbecile. It means not using the state to suppress it.

Forbes is really bad at this.

Still wondering (or having to deal with people who wonder) if EVs really ARE better for the environment than IC vehicles? This article provides what seems - to my non-scientific mind - to be a pretty good analysis:
