Can’t help but notice that when Twitter banned cross-linking certain social media sites it didn’t include Gab, Gettr, or Parler.

@evangreer Not anecdotally. For real. Around 125K new users joined Mastodon in the last 48 hours. This is 5x normal rates. It is a moderate wave, and the influx of new users is still well above normal. Mastodon handled the surge very well with only minor impact on the performance of the network.

Just as the news media couldn't aggregate the Trump story - to create an evolving image of a criminal rather than the stagnant picture of a strange politician - they can't aggregate the #elon story.

They can't stop framing him as a boy genius. They think money = smart because money = power.

The instant #twitter began banning journalists - regardless of whether those bans were rescinded - elon showed his hand. If one adds that info to the aggregate - one cannot go back to twitter and treat it as any sort of legitimate information crossroads.

One last thing the news media has been slow to aggregate and thus report? #Mastodon itself.

They remain miles behind this curve. Post isn't the answer because algorithms! Only the fediverse - flaws and all - can work as the public square environment because NO ONE can own it. And therefore NO ONE can impose a self-serving algorithm upon the rest of us and our experience here.

I'm here for the content. I'm here to provide content. Twitter no longer serves my - or any honest creator's purpose. That's just a fact.
