I believe mastodon.social might be under a DDoS attack currently, investigating. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Yup. That's why I do it -- to let the poster know I read their post and support their posting of it.

That's also why I like the star here on Mastodon. I don't like hearts or likes. I may not like what you posted but I'm glad you posted it.

In September 2021, Andy Ngo colluded with Proud Boys to endanger me and my son. Ngo tweeted out a video that was recorded illegally by far-right extremists trespassing on my property. The video shows me standing inside my home and it shows the interior of my small apartment including the area where my son sleeps.

Despite the court granting legal sanctions and a restraining order protecting me and my son from the violent Proud Boy responsible for the video, the video is still up on Ngo's Twitter account — showing a detailed view of the inside of the apartment and naming my city. theintercept.com/2021/11/10/pr

By selling ads to the popular conservative disinformation site for searches like “climate change is a hoax” and “is global warming a scam,” Google ensured the climate disinformation at the Daily Wire — founded with $4.7 million of fracking magnate and co-owner Farris Wilks’ money — would be the top result for those searches

Caution: Trump treason

One of the most stinging ironies of this historical era is that #Trump's mentor-in-evil, Roy Cohn, executed Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in the electric chair for much, much, much less of a betrayal of our country than this. #USpol #politics

Ironic that individual developers with #Android apps on #Google Play often give vastly better customer support to their users than most large firms today. (This post inspired by an Android app developer on the other side of the planet I've been communicating with for the last week or so, who is quickly making changes and pushing out beta compatibility versions for me to test each day for his $6 app.)

Imagine being a chuklefuck Republican and thinking this is a win.

@allenholub yea, Cory Doctorow has coined the term "enshitification" for products like this. Google is very far down the process at this point.

My husband bought a black face mask for walking in the cold and now my amazon front page is really scary and disturbing...it looks like my amazon front page is about to rob a convenience store. Or maybe blow something up.

It’s sad the BBC foreign language services are being closed but I am also concerned that the remainder are moved online. Compared to broadcast radio, online services are easier to block and easier to surveil who is listening. Sometimes low-tech solutions are the best for privacy. middleeasteye.net/news/bbc-ara

Okay, apparently the National Weather Service isn't on here yet, and Twitter hasn't imploded, so I added three new #NWS bots. @NWSHonolulu_bot @NWSHouston_bot and @NWSCaribou_bot for #Hawaii #Texas and #Maine #wx #weather

A linguistics professor was lecturing on the role of the double negative, noting that in some languages like Russian a double negative remains negative, while in other languages like French a double negative becomes positive. However, the professor observed, in no language in the world does a double positive become negative. From the back of the classroom a student replied, "Yeah. Right."

A fine-dining restaurant is open two days a week, Friday and Saturday, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Nearly all seating is by reservation. They've always unlocked the door at 5 PM sharp. It's been proposed to unlock the door 5 or 10 minutes before 5 PM so early arrivers can come in. Staff is sharply divided on this question. Owners are also divided.

So I thought I'd get some opinions from people who are not personally involved. Feel free to express your opinion / boost. I'm looking for input.

If you were a customer with a 5 PM reservation, would you expect the door to be unlocked:
