Elijah McCoy was born in 1844 in Ontario to formerly-enslaved parents from Kentucky. They saved enough to send him to Scotland to study mechanical #engineering. When he returned and couldn't get work in his field, he took a job as a train oilman and invented a method of automatic lubrication that eliminated the frequent stops trains had to make to oil up axles & bearings. Railroad companies asking for his product rather than copycat devices spawned the phrase "the real McCoy." #BlackHistoryMonth

Winter light: First lit in 1910 and retired by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1969, Minnesota’s Split Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior is relit a couple of times a year for special occasions. One of those occasions is the memorial for the sinking of the steamer Edmund Fitzgerald on 10 November, 1975. Photo by Steve Simmer.

It also feels like something at the end of the show bears repeating: @Gargron, and all the other folks who have been working tirelessly for the past seven years, saved our asses.
To all of you who had the foresight to build Mastodon, a sincere THANK YOU. We're in your debt.
This teeny tiny 1930s prefab (castle shaped!) diner was offered for free to whoever could haul it away, and it needs some restoration work, but it's the cutest architecture you'll see this week.

Hunter Biden's legal team is on the offensive, demanding state & federal investigations into the dissemination of material from his laptop, & threatening a defamation lawsuit against Fox's Tucker Carlson for allegedly failing to correct false statements.

I don't drive white people's cars. Not joking. If a white friend asks me to drive their car, the answer is usually no. White folk can drive cars with minor issues without getting pulled over, but Black folk can't.
I don't drive my own car the entire month before the tags are due to expire.
I avoid certain entire cities. Part of my problem was I was often the one Black guy driving in the white town. For example, in over 25 years in Cali I've never once been pulled over in Oakland.🤷🏿♂️
It went down into the single digits last night so I went out and did the frozen soap bubble thing. It was ~6°F when I made these photos in Reno. I need to experiment with a different soap solution chemistry. All of my bubbles froze with polygon shapes. I didn't get any with a fern leaf looking shape which I think looks better.
The poll is still running but I want to thank everyone who has voted and expressed views and opinions. This poll is turning out much more useful and informative than I expected.
Thank you all!!!
A fine-dining restaurant is open two days a week, Friday and Saturday, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Nearly all seating is by reservation. They've always unlocked the door at 5 PM sharp. It's been proposed to unlock the door 5 or 10 minutes before 5 PM so early arrivers can come in. Staff is sharply divided on this question. Owners are also divided.
So I thought I'd get some opinions from people who are not personally involved. Feel free to express your opinion / boost. I'm looking for input.
If you were a customer with a 5 PM reservation, would you expect the door to be unlocked:
I panicked when I saw #DollyParton was trending in the other place, then I found it was for the best-worst reason.
Get your shit together, Oklahoma
Utah didn’t ban youth hormone therapy such as testosterone boosters for cis boys. It didn’t ban “gender affirming surgery” such as breast augmentation for cis girls.
Just for trans kids.
You know, in case you’re wondering if lawmakers are really out to “protect the children” like they claim.
Give me a break.

Elon dumped dozens of far right accounts into my timeline like I followed them, then twitter silently hid, did not deliver , my tweets telling my followets what they had done.
Twitter did not prevented my tweeting, it didnt show rules then prevent tweeting against the rules.
👉They let me tweet, then didnt deliver any of them, to any followers in any time line.👈
