Google pulled element, the popular app with E2EE off the play store. Unlike most of these chat apps element can's censor what their users see because users can host their own infrastructure (sans push which is required to be run by the organization pushing the app to the app store due to an arbitrary rule.)
Did they pull your app that you believe is immune to censorship and surveillance?
@a_breakin_glass This is way more controversial than it should be.
@icedquinn It's cheaper than living in most coastal states I think.
If some of these option trades work out I might buy a small one.
@garritfra Bio metrics are pretty easy to forge (more than most people think) and forcing everyone to register them is definitely a very bad thing.
National IDs are pretty much always a bad idea as well.
@garritfra Everyone knows the play store is trash and you should be using f-droid or termux packages for everything instead.
re: lol how to write canvas libraries
@icedquinn Good because last I checked there's not much left.
re: lol how to write canvas libraries
@icedquinn Everything in OpenGL other than drawing transformed shadered(?) triangles always has this "oh that's actually deprecated" or "oh it turns out no one implements that (or half the drivers implement it wrong)" attached to it. Or the default behavior is just stupid.
I hate writing stuff in OpenGL so much because of this.
lol how to write canvas libraries
@icedquinn Line drawing is surprisngly hard (except for the GLSL way where you iterate over every fragment and test if you're "in" the line.)
@icedquinn Sure, but if you don't do them stuff really falls apart.
@icedquinn Chores are all that matter at the end of the day IMO.
@freemo @icedquinn Hmm, maybe you're right. I don't short sell ever because it freaks me out so you probably know better than me.
@icedquinn @freemo OMG lol that's great.
FR though I'm not long GME. I don't think that's a responsible position. I'm playing with the derivatives though.
@freemo @icedquinn It works like a high interest rate loan though.
So yes in theory you could hold a short position forever but in practice there's the time value of money and you want to close it quickly. This is why shorting usually requires pretty precise timing and most people don't recommend taking a bearish position that way.
@icedquinn @georgia @freemo I've been buying NOK shares all day just to test this and it's not the case on TD Ameritrade at least.
@freemo @icedquinn The problem is that they have to buy the stocks to exit their position (since the idea behind shorting is that they sold stocks they don't have, that would normally increase the supply and decrease the price.)
Because they shorted more shares then actually exist they have to buy them back up at crazy high prices or hold their position open.
@icedquinn I actually ran 9front for a few years, I even used it to host my email.
Lots of interesting ideas.
I ultimately migrated to gentoo so I could run a more popular OS that's compatible with more software.
@icedquinn This is why my avatar is just a lambda with a tiny poorly drawn smiley face.

Email mastodon+swiley@swiley.net (this makes all of my computers beep and turn on an indicator light and is always the fastest way to reach me.) I was on octodon a while ago but abandoned my account. I've never been a member of gab or parlor.
If you’d like to learn to program I would consider the SICP [1] more or less the peak of American CS pedagogy (at least as far as beginners go) along with “The Practice of Programming” once you get through that.
I play ukulele, I’m ok at reading music and decent at improv. I learned from Walter Piston’s “Harmony” and some of Adam Neely’s videos.
My main phone is a pine phone so if I don’t pick up when you call the battery is probably dead, the modem is probably dead, or I’m currently swearing at calls/pulseaudio/alsa. I’d strongly recommend sending an email instead.
Dispite what my web page says I’ve stopped uploading my scratch projects to GitHub once I started to understand the basics of collaboration with git. I was using the flamegraph as gamification/motivation but it doesn’t work as well with feature branch/squash merge workflows so I just keep most things on my VPS until I’m happy with publishing updates.
