Re-running a poll I saw on Mastodon a while ago, before various migrations. Just collecting numbers, not seeking advice or anything. Please boost for reach.

@Annq Jeśli na Twoich kontach go nie widzisz, to dobrze, moderacja działa.

Jeśli widzisz, to zgłaszaj. Moderacja działa najlepiej gdy wzajemnie sobie pomagamy: osoby korzystające z fedi i zespoły moderacyjne.

To nie jest tak, że ktoś 8 godzin siedzi i ogląda w sieci co by tu zablokować. Moderatorki i moderatorzy to zazwyczaj osoby wolontariackie, wykonujące robotę w wolnym czasie.

Więc ta współpraca i wzajemna pomoc są bardzo ważne.

I gotta go for gas. I don't need gas, I need a few groceries, but to drive 60 miles, I'll need to gas up.

the only local store left, is on the verge of closing. The tiny town has still got a convenience store, but the couple running it are seniors and want to retire, That's the last business for 25 miles. End days of Rural Living

Szukam kogoś kto dałby radę stworzyć program do komunikacji poprzez wzrok.

For all the talk of how fucked up AI hands are, it somehow never occurred to me until this cursed image rolled across my feed that the feet would be equally fucked up.

I've spent a lot of time over the last couple years thinking about #sciComm, both in sharing research with the public and other scientists.

Doing research for my latest Penn NeuroKnow post debunking common myths about the brain was fascinating as I traced through where several of these myths originated. Oftentimes they start with real #neuroscience results that get twisted into something overly generalized or not quite accurate. In some cases, as with the "tongue map" myth, we have a pretty clear idea of what single decision or moment in time caused the confusion, but in other cases it's less clear how we got to such widespread misconceptions.

In my post I briefly talked about how anyone can help stop this cycle of miscommunication, but I'm eager to hear other opinions about where the responsibility to prevent future neuromyths lies and what we as neuroscientists can do to stop them.

"What if every journalist was a climate journalist, and every time they reported or edited a story they were thinking about our urgent global task of getting emissions to zero?"

Insightful text on how media's coverage of the climate crisis needs to change.

Btw, while I was taking some astro pictures yesterday, I was also looking at the sky with my binoculars, and gazed at the Galilean moons of Jupiter. Io, Europe and Ganimedes were visible, Callisto was too close to the planet. Every time I see them I imagine what Galileo must have felt, being the first human to observe them. #astrodon

I don't just want a bunch of Black instances where Black people are safe. Black instances are great and I love them, but that's only half of the solution. That's like telling Ruby Bridges that she'll be safe as long as she stays in the Black school on the Black side of town.

Instead, I want any new admin that creates a small community like "Bike Atlanta," or "Geologists dot social," to be able to welcome users of all backgrounds without being inundated by racist trolls.
