I’m a #TwitterRefugee & #NewHere, so I should probably do an #introduction. I’m a #retired grandmother, & recently started learning Tai Chi Sun Style & Spanish. I’ve always been an #animallover, have had many #dogs that were #rescues, used to own #horses & ride hunt seat & dressage, enjoy #reading #mysteries & #scifi, have done some writing, & do a little proofreading & #knitting. I’m also a #ProgressiveChristian (ex-evangelical) who follows #politics.

One of the most striking charts showing how the pandemic exposed underlying social #inequality: Life expectancy declined by 5 to 6 years in the lowest-income neighborhoods of CA, but barely changed in the wealthiest ones.

Are there any good #Muslim instances on #mastodon?

I have a friend who has experienced so much racism and surveillance that she's wary of using social media at all. I was thinking that a server run by and for Muslims like herself might be a safer place to plug in.

Please share suggestions or RT if your followers might know. Thanks!

Oh. my. god.

Madison Square Garden used facial recognition to identify and stop a mom from attending a Christmas show with her kid because she's an attorney at a firm who is engaged in litigation with them.

This is why it's not enough to just ban government and law enforcement use of #facialrecognition. There are so many ways private companies and even individuals can abuse #biometric #surveillance tech.

#BanFacialRecognition entirely. Yesterday.

During World War II, red lips were seen as a bold act of defiance. Adolf Hitler famously “hated red lipstick.” In Allied countries, wearing it became a sign of patriotism and a statement against facism.
The American government tapped Elizabeth Arden to create a standard issue lip color for women in service. Her "Montezuma Red" matched and accentuated their uniforms' red piping.

And, since seismicity is only the edges and shadows of complex, 3D space-time tectonic processes, the best is an animated view in 3D!
