@tripu Actually misleading. It represents things linearly when this should be a tree: Neither Australopithecus nor the Neandertal man are our ancestors, they are our cousins.
As for Choanoflagellates, these are a group of living organisms that is sister to animals. Agnatha is the sister group of jawed vertebrates. What is meant is that the morphology of our ancestor was similar, but I find it misleading.

In my professional circles (I'm a software engineer) I have met plenty of people who were either extremely shy, misanthropes, or on the (autistic) spectrum.

Often I assumed those types were churls, selfish, arrogant, and/or ill-mannered — and as such I tended feel looked down on, and to keep interaction to a minimum.

More recently I have understood that sometimes (often?) it's a condition, something they _suffer_, and not a conscious decision about how to be in the world. And so I grew more sympathetic and patient with some of them.

And yet, I feel it frustrating that genuine boors and arrogant people often can be mistaken with autistic people, and it's difficult to tell. I don't want to be kind to someone who assumes I'm dumb, or who despises chatting with me. But I want to support autistic people.

Yeah, my proposal is just the beginning of an that would evolve.

I think in many cases, a binary classification (_human_ or _robot_) would suffice. For example, I assumed that the image on your post was _robot_, no need to clarify, and no great harm in leaving some ambiguity there. I'm manly concerned about news pieces, (alleged) photographs of influential people or events, and consequential items of the sort.

For more granularity and interoperability, I'd love to see something like [Microformats](microformats.io) or similar metadata standardised (there's probably some effort already, I haven't checked).

Turns out the effect is (scientifically) an illusion — also in the realm of . So don't despair!

@ihatebooks

If we consider “War and Peace” a single book, it's the longest I've read too.

Otherwise, it would be “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Lord of the Rings” (tied if TLOTR is a single book), and then “Ulysses”, the third volume of “In Search of Lost Time”, “Dune”…

No conspiracy needed: just human nature, economic incentives, and poor regulatory oversight.

No company has an incentive to respect ; only to _make everyone believe_ that it respects privacy, and to avoid being caught.

You presume innocence just because ~~is~~ seems an outlier among big tech. What is more likely: that Apple alone is _unique_ in its strategy and goals, or that it's better at doing fishy things surreptitiously? I say we can't be reasonably confident it's the former.

is great at secrecy. They manage to work on major changes and whole lines of products for years, involving thousands of people, without nobody noticing.

Of course they could be doing all sorts of things with all kinds of data and we wouldn't know about that.

Given all precedents in the industry, we should err on the side of scepticism.
