It kind of makes me feel small to turn around and see famous people come to the network and suddenly have thousands of followers over the course of days.

I know it doesn't ultimately matter, but it's weird to be in a space for almost half of your life, and suddenly see former Blue Checkmarks roll in and suddenly command a substantial following out of nowhere.

Maybe I'm being insecure and petty, I dunno. It's just kind of a mindfuck.

I still think this migration is ultimately a good thing, and I think lots of people deserve the benefits of what this thing we're building has to offer.

I just don't want this place to lose its charm by being turned into the thing people are running away from.

I'm definitely worried about the same. A lot of these blue checks are used to being in charge. I don't want them to come in and start making demands -- it's a decentralized system, we don't owe them anything.

They're the ones who created the authoritarian system they're fleeing because someone they don't like is in charge. If they want authoritarianism with someone they like in charge, they shouldn't bother leaving big tech.

@sj_zero I mean, paradoxically, a decentralized system has room for everybody. I'm curious about how network reach would even work here, if enough people were spread out between servers.

@sean @sj_zero I think there may be a divide on the fediverse, with a crowd behaving in a similar way as they'd been doing and another population doing the tight knit anti-corporate thing ... why not? I'm just so excited to see many "followers" being exposed to a world where they are not the product ... it might open some eyes:)

They might discover that this is simply a much cooler party;)
