The latter also allows for different instances to develop their own values or reflect the culture / values they represent.
not everyone likes soccer so a soccer focussed instance will appeal to those who are interested,, they will follow/
Bu the latter will then allow people from other instances to interact.
By 'app' do you mean instance or software application used to connect to tge fediverse vai a specific instannce?

Highly recommended read on #centralization vs #decentralization and the recognition of how distributed systems work.
"Regulation is a centralized function. The job of #regulation is to stop distributed systems from going awry"
"Things are going very bad very quickly. It will get worse. Major rework is needed. We all feel it. We are not doing the rework. We are chasing rainbows. We don't need deregulation. We need better designed regulation."
High school students tend to get more motivated over time

Interesting passage from this
"But a new study that followed more than 1,600 students over two years found that students' academic motivation often did change -- and usually for the better.
Results showed that increasing students' sense of "belongingness" in school was one key way of increasing academic motivation."
So I wonder if this applies to fedi and what you were suggesting earlier, the more we feel like we belong here, the more likely we are to want to be part of the fediverse.
@matrix I am more wondering who else is going to be cited in this trial and named as being on the Island with Epstein.
@humanetech The metaverse is a bad idea invented by companies desperate for a next big thing to sell to investors.

There can be reasons to have an immersive 3d environment but it's unlikely to become the dominant means for computer interaction.
If you're interested there's a project inspired by second life that allows different hosters to interact http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Main_Page
It may be a bad idea but that won't stop it's owners pushing it in an aggressive way.

We need to look at what makes facebook popular, which is bringing people together.
I hve had some really good conversations on here, so we need more of that in a way. Perhaps more people to simple post sorts results, spark conversations.
Or tap in on FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) so something on here, that is not on mainstream that is such that people DO miss out on something and join.
Perhaps more on-line education courses can make use of the fediverse, so you need to be HERE to make the most of the social / Q&A side of that.
#Fediverse, while we shaped a great place to be, we are sitting ducks for disruption by corporates where Metaverses are now the talk of the day.
We need broad vision to move forward, to ensure our relevance into the future, to inspire and become more united in our quest.
We do a lot of talking and we could do with more walking. Coordinated action.
I might be dreamy or crazy, but am afraid we squander the huge potential we have.
Let's build worlds, my fellow fedizens.

I agree, we need to build better, we need to ensure what we build is safe and puts people first.
Do we 'need' to copy themetaverse,

I see the demand here is Urged. That is no good with these tech giants, ORDER them to do it, then fine them a lot of money per day they fail to act. Oh and use the money to find fedi perhaps and help build something much better.
@info_activism The latest trend on Tik Tok is to abuse police officers, the UK has a serious problem, we can't keep blaming the platforms, we need to start looking at how people behave and how we deal with it.
