@cully45 +1 to that or at least make them justify their argument and let others put their argument against the use of these books before a judge.
It seems to me that social media behaviour is only as good or bad as the users on there.
If I was the school bully, at osme time I would comment on your appearance to your face.
Social media simply lets that person do the same thing hiding behind a screen and a fake name in some cases.
It makes no difference how those comments are made they are equally as hurtful and long lasting.
I did a course on the effects of this, one suggestion to understand the effects is to take a sheet of paper, screw it up tight in a ball then unfold.
the paper is creased, those creases you can't get rid if, just as you can't undo the damage caused by those nasty comments.
@cully45 Good idea, do you have any national charities who deal with this.
There is
https://www.unicef.org/child-protection
Who may be more useful in the US, as I think Banadoes are just UK based (however they may have branches in other commonwealth countries)
You need to start conversations
I can't comment on these, as they were a result of a duck duck go search
https://www.mylittlemoppet.com/books-about-child-abuse-for-young-children/
Perhaps these would be a more appropriate alternative.
Losing to TikTok and snapchat.
So question is what can fedi learn from this ?
Ah fair enough that makes sense
In that case I will just include this
https://www.thailinux.com/invidious.html
As that has a list of instance, may help people who are not sure what invidious is.
Given the treatment of teachers in the UK on TikTok it seems social media in general is bad for mental health.
All these platforms are designed to draw you in , keep you fed with content so you stay.
Fedi does not have the AI for that, so we are able to respond to a single comment or have a conversation without some AI deciding we need more of x and less of y.
Interesting as we have a TV series here in the UK called Holby city (Hospital Drama series), one of the story lines recently centred around child trafficking & sexual abuse.
If this sort of storyline helps one person come forward and seek help then it is worth running.
However storylines such as this, also carry a BBC action line helpline number after the program for anyone affected by the content.
Holby city is not a program made for or aimed at children, so again kinda different as the books being referred to clearly are.
It is a shame we can't get people on fedi who work to help victims, so I will just include the link again.
I am sure they could offer some insight in to how we should handle this topic.
Done and then e-mailed myself the link.
Any reason why the url can't be posted in to Mastodon ?
I have it now anyway.
I would rather find different viewpoints from different people who have expertise in their field. Peer review process is there for a reason, and why this process should be robust.
Having studied science you read different arguments and form conclusion from that evidence.
Then form conclusions.
Do you have the link, I can take a look and share, I would like to share information that cites sources etc.
@zleap
That can be a problem, but someone has offered a link to a channel of a gentleman who states his sources, too, we should also say.
We don't believe there's any reason to be particularly afraid of taking a look at the retired nurse's channel, rather than spending time talking about taking a look in this instance.
@SleebyElf @publicvoit
The problem it seems people (or some) would rather listen to some self proclaimed 'expert' on social media channels like youtube or instagram who also call them selves an influencer than a qualified professional who knows what they are talking about.
@publicvoit @SleebyElf @dsfgs @icedquinn
@publicvoit I am on your side with looking at the real science.
@publicvoit @icedquinn @dsfgs @SleebyElf
Me too, there has to be some proper reports on this as in science papers etc rather than relying on the media for the story.
@icedquinn @dsfgs @publicvoit @Alex
They should investigate how France / UK / EU have handled migration, allowed people smuggling to run out of control and how this causes more misery for the victims of it.
While they play political ping pong for point scoring people are dying or have died.
@natecull not sure but you are with like minded people here so we can probably at least come up with a few ideas.
I don't really get this.
I admit back in the late 1990s, early 2000s, with Open Source becoming a thing, I did feel like there was a chance for the Internet to truly decentralise and for money to not be its motivating power.
But now cryptocurrency has hijacked the brains of even the people who once were interested in decentralised systems.
There's got to be a new way forward from this whole mess somehow. But how?
@publicvoit What if you are unvaxxed for a medical reason ?
I am vaxxed btw
I meant primarily the software projects. If there are many instances the contribute to attractiveness of 'ecosystem'.
But instances, i.e. server bounderies, are a very poor abstraction to model online community with. Better ways to model the social fabric of the fedi also work best on the level of interoperability betweeen applications.
